We are looking forward to an extremely great year of fishing in Delacroix this year! We have an unbelievable amount of submerged vegetation still now going into February. The grass can be two-fold but mainly a good thing as far as habitat for both bait and trout, reds, drum, etc. The grass also will help us extremely well in the windy months of early spring because it filters the water and helps.... Sorry for the late report everyone, just had back surgery a few days ago so I'm trying to catch up now with everything. All in all we had a Great season in the Delacroix/Canaervon area this year, better than we've had in at least 5 years. All together this year between myself and 2 other guides we shot right at 1,374 birds total which was right at a 4.4.... Read More
It has been an outstanding duck season for us in Delacroix this year. We have had non stop action with plenty of fantastic hunts. We started off with swarms of Teal early in the season and the last few weeks have been mostly Gadwall. The big ducks have been decoying beautifully lately ever since we stopped hunting the boat blinds early in.... Read More
Merry Christmas from Cast and Blast Charters everyone!
We have had a fantastic week down here in Delacroix with large amounts of ducks that have set in around the marshes of Delacroix. The front that came down Sunday was a great push for us, the hard fronts that have rain with them always push alot more ducks down than a dry front and this one was a perfect example. The water rose.... Read More
We have had a great few days down in Delacroix this week chasing the ducks and catching fish! The opening of the second split started this past Saturday and the birds were thick. The birds have been working really well for us especially the early morning Teal. Most of the Teal opportunities we had this weekend were all flocks of 20 plus which is amazing to watch.... Read More
I still have an opening for a group of up to 4 hunters for opening day of the second split this Saturday. We have alot of new birds with yesterdays front and we should have a great weekend! Call me at 504-427-4973 while it's still available!
I have an opening left for Saturday for up to 4 for the opening of the second split. We've been seeing a good amount of ducks the last few days while fishing and today was the most I've seen in 2 weeks or so. It's going to be a great second split with hopefully alot more fresh birds that will decoy a little better and give us some better shooting.... Read More
We had a great first split down in Delacroix the last few weeks and can't wait for December 14 when the second split opens up! We started off the first 2 weeks with quick limits and tons of shooting for my guests but if we were patient enough we were shooting alot of big ducks. I learned real quick this year that the big ducks wanted no part of the boat blinds, even with breaking up the shape.... Read More
The last 2 days I had the pleasure of Neal and Drew Worrell in town from Florida for a Cast and Blast yesterday and a hunt only today. Yesterday we started out the hunt with very high water due to the strong east winds and the birds just didn't move very much. I setup in one of my drive in blinds and we had quite a few looks for some flocks of Grays but.... Read More
I had the pleasure of taking Jim, Scott, and Joe again today for both a duck hunt and a fishing trip. We setup for the morning hunt with perfect conditions, except for the high water, but we had a stiff Northeast wind and gave our spread the look it needed. We saw a few Teal early but they didn't give us any looks as flock after flock was landing in.... Read More
I had the pleasure of Jim, Scott, and Joe down from Atlanta for a warm weather duck hunt. We left the dock a little later this morning since it stormed all night long and luckily about 5 minutes into the boat ride the rain quit completely and didn't start again until we were picking up decoys. We setup about 10 minutes late and the wind completely went to.... Read More
Had the pleasure again today of taking Jeremy and Miranda for another hunt today and they had a blast!!! Right at first light we had flocks of 15-30 teal landing in our decoys a few minutes before shooting time so we were able to enjoy the scenery. As soon as shooting time arrived it was non-stop action until we were done at 7am with our 3 man limits. We.... Read More
Had a good hunt this morning with Miranda and Jeremy from Mississippi. The morning started off a little slow without any wind but luckily the birds wanted in either way. Our ponds are extremely packed with grass right now and I've been using very large decoy spreads to catch the ducks attention and it's been paying off. The biggest thing I've noticed so far.... What a great way to start off the 2013/2014 duck season! I haven't seen this many ducks for opening weekend since before Katrina. Opening day was by far some of the most shooting I have heard in a long time with very mixed results but pretty sure all blinds shot a few at the least. We ended up the last 2 days with a total of 81 ducks between 2 boats each day!!!! We had a.... Read More
I have one boat left open for a duck hunt on Sunday morning or a fishing trip. We have a cold front coming through tomorrow which will drop the water level back down and hopefully give us a few more birds for this first weekend of the season. The fishing has been extremely consistent with tons of trout hitting the box when the wind allows us. The season looks great.... Read More
Spent the day today brushing up all the blinds and getting ready for Saturday! As of today everything looked incredible. The water was down a bit today but will be back up with all the east wind tomorrow. The marsh looked excellent, everything north of Grand Lake and South of Lake Lery was absolutely packed full of grass everywhere we ran through going from lease to lease,.... Read More
Opening day is a week away and we are ready to go down here in Delacroix. We have a few openings left for November to get in on a hunt. The season will run through December 1st for the first split so don't wait too long to book as the days are going fast! Give me a call and come hunting!
The trout fishing is still outstanding down here, we limited out the last.... Read More
With a little over a week until opening day, I'm seeing good numbers of ducks in the whole Delacroix area! The last few days Ive seen quite a few more big ducks that have shown up but the evenings are jam packed with birds! The mornings lately we haven't had any tide movement to speak of in the interior but the evening is when the water falls hard and the birds are pouring into the shallow.... Read More
We had a chance this evening after the morning fishing trip to get some blinds brushed up and it was the perfect day for it. The temps were bareable and with cool fronts lined up it looks like we will actually have a cool opening day which really helps to get everyone into the mood for duck season. We built quite a few blinds today on the different.... Read More
The trout have definitely made their transition into the interior marshes of Delacroix! We have been fishing everyday for about 3 weeks and have caught limits or close to everyday. The trout are mostly hanging in 2-3ft of water along submerged grass beds. The last few days I fished a little further south around Bay Lafourche to find some clean water since all the wind dirtied up the inside. I.... Read More
