Go to the Garmin web site at www.garmin
and then select the ON THE WATER option. When the page appears, find the GPSMAP 420s unit and the GPSMAP 430s units. Click on the small box on the extreme right of the page, then SCROLL down the page all the way to the bottom and click on the COMPARE box.
The next screen that appears should be a comparison of both units in a side by side format of all of their specifications.
In reviewing these specifications, I noted that the only difference was the fact that the GPSMAP 430 was PRELOADED with Garmin’s INLAND LAKE mapping program.
The 430 comes preloaded with detailed maps for U.S. inland lakes, including 5300 lakes with shoreline, depth contours, navaids and more and the it has Garmin’s advanced Inland Lakes Vision features for 300 of the most popular lakes.
By going to the Garmin web site again and entering the following URL in the address bar (http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/inland/Inland_Lakes_List.pdf ) you can view which lakes are covered in the program.
Both units can also accommodate Garmin’s latest Blue Chart g2 Vision mapping software for the entire U.S. coastal waters. The BLUE CHART g2 VISION is Garmin’s latest marine mapping software.
