My 1988 mercury 70 hp will crank and start fine, usually as soon as I turn the key. But once it cranks it will idle for 2-3 seconds and dies. Don't know what the problem is. Any info/ tips are appreciated.

I'm thinking of getting a new nautic star 224 xts. I see they are outfitting these boats which are designed for a 25' motor with 20' shaft motors on a jackplate. Does anyone else own one and are how is the performance of this setup? Any professional advice (not dealer trying to unload the boat advice) on this setup would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance.
