In the summer when I found that nest of giant yellow edge groupers, I got extremely lucky that they were all big none of them was under 12 pounds!! I caught 18 of them that were over 20lbs, plus four for the record books in the 30 pound range! So what I'm saying is wintertime is allegedly the migration of big grouper, yeah they do somewhat migrate! That spot that found, which by the way there....  Read More

Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls dogs and cats roaches and rats!!! Or to whom it may concern!! Be advised that it is wintertime which sometimes equals sushi for 1000!! Meaning this time of the year with just a perhaps a little luck, you can get into schools of big giant yellow fins, big wahoos, big snappers, Big cobia's, big groupers, big hardtails, and of course turbo-magnum size....  Read More

  • Call'em cobras! Cause they could prob eat a small human, such as my self!
  • Got these guys 8 miles due south of Sanddollar marina, in like 60 feet of water
  • Another great day just minutes out of the pass!!
So tuna and cobia fishing has still been incredible, when the weather allows you to go, also even if it is a little rough it is okay because the cobia are in 20 to 40 feet of water!! Yeah giant ones by the way!! A 100plus pounder was spotted in 24 feet of water in West Delta like six days ago!! Plus many that are 40 to 70 pounds are being caught when targeted correctly!! Also the Big yellow....  Read More

I'm on a quest to fulfill a friends wish of scattering ashes in the gulf. Specifically in BLUE WATER - pretty green won't work. I've gotten conflicting info on how far out I'd have to go. The boat is lined up, out of Fourchon. A few hurdles have been jumped and a couple left to go. Any help in understanding where that line is will help.

I finally have a day off. Here is a pic from a few weeks ago of Cody Baker's 212 pound yellowfin tuna. One hour and twenty minute fight. I pitched the fish a bait and handed the rod off to him. It was his first yellowfin as well. Congrats Cody!

This is this Tennessee boy's first post so hopefully y'all won't run me off! Went out of Venice for my first time this year and had a blast! Tried for tuna but we didn't have the right bait. Needed the smaller baits. Did get into some nice kings and this nice AJ. Can't wait to go back!

  • Nice conditions not many fish
Went out for an overnight trip this last weekend. Found some decent water to the southeast of southwest pass with a nice grass line running across the colorchange. Trolled it for almost two hours with no strikes. The whole rip itself looked dead no life on it at all. Was able to make some good bait once we found a good patch and made some bait but just my luck the bait plump died while....  Read More

Hi guys, I'm launching out of Venice this Friday morning for an overnight trip hoping to catch my first yellowfin. I usually head out to the floaters around Noble Bully but it looks like the water is a bit dirty to the west.

Can someone give me some ballpark advice about where to go overnight in hopes of yellowfin?

thanks a lot

  • Monster wahoo! Lately I've seen some blue telephones hit the dick, such as this 1!
  • Plenty of these close to land, hand feed!
Many capt.'s that have been fishing Venice for years are saying this is the best fall they have seen in years! With tons of monster yellowfins and black fins, not far from land at all! Some giant yellowfins were caught in 62 feet of water the other day!! That is just crazy!! Also offshore at the floaters has been phenomenal fishing! With most days almost double digit numbers in yellowfins, and....  Read More

I have a tuna trip booked for the Sun 10/26. 2 of our 5 backed out so we need 2 more for cost (and fish) sharing purposes. It's a 1 day trip out of Venice marina. with 5 , the cost should be right at $500 per person, give or take depending on gas & tip(if warranted). If interested , let me know via email at cmandds01@yahoo.com.

A pic of the boat is pictured below.

Some of you may have heard about the capsized catameran in grand isle saturday night. I wont get in to details about the whole inccident. about 8:45 pm we heard the chopper outside the camp, when i went out on the back deck i quickly noticed a boat in the beam of light. Being previous Coast Guard, an EMT, and on rescue squad at the chemical plant my instints kicked in and i headed to the....  Read More

We left Venice Marina Wednesday morning aboard the Peacekeeper with high hopes of getting my son (will 13 years old) his largest tuna ever and Capt. Peace didn't disappoint. After making bait we set up on the shrimp boats and it didn't take long before we had a large yellowfin appear out of nowhere and streak through the chum line. Capt. Peace pitched out a bait and the yellowfin ate it....  Read More

The surf on Friday near Pensacola went from bad to worse. When we got to the launch site the surf wasn’t too bad, but the Gulf was covered with T-storms. We headed to Waffle House to wait a while and see what would happen. After about an hour we headed back. Still had some storms, but it looked like we could get out. We did.

Finding bait was a little slow, but we managed some small cigs....  Read More
