I donít know itís just the adrenaline rush you get after a successful hunt on public land. This hunt started out just like every opening day public land hunt, big crowds, lots of partyers, loud music and hunters walking all over the place. This is what make the trip rewarding and wouldnít have it any other way! Opening morning I and Nick decided to make a squirrel hunt, in order to get away....
My sons got picked for the youth hunt at Dewey Wills on Dec. 12 and 13th, just wondering what to expect,..Do I need to bring my 4 wheeler, can we camp there? big stands? Anyone been there on a youth hunt before? Thanks for any information
cant believe they let the lease go for Union wma! Killed my first deer there 10 years ago and my most recent last year there! Best chances at getting a deer on a wma in the state in my opinion always worth the drive from Gonzales! Anyone else going to miss Union ?
Nothing like a good hunt on public land. Me and my buddy went down to Sherburne WMA on Sunday morning in hopes of shooting some feathers, reports in the area were conflicting but as most people say a bad day in the woods is better than most days regardless. Anyway we had a nice group of woodies/ teal fly in early, I missed on my three shots and my buddy's gun jammed; not a great start. Later....
Forgive the potentially ignorant question but I ddecided to bow hunt on wma land and read that residents between age 16-59 will need an archery license but I can't find anywhere in Louisiana that offers bow hunter education.is it something I just tack on when I purchase my hunting license?
Wanted to let everyone know that there is a big boy roamin' the woods on the Tunica Hills North Tract. Him and a cub have been frequenting our private land during the day and are most likely spending most of their time on the WMA.
The Good: Friday started off good with a long boat ride up the river with a few friends and kids to our select hunting spot. We had a short trip into the hardwood bottoms that was overlooking the hills and oak trees. I was able to get settled into a tree top, as it was breaking daylight I spotted a doe that had already slipped by but behind the doe was a basket rack 9 point that gave me a....
It is truly another sad day for those that hunt public lands in Louisiana. Once again, the legislature, with the passage of SB 212 (2015), and the LDWF decision to not honor this new law for those that hunt public lands, has reaffirmed that there is a two tiered system of justice, or a double standard of rights and privileges, for hunters in the State of Louisiana.
Anyone Crawfishing in the Mississippi River know of some public land that you dont have to lease? Where im at now im being told that i may have to get permission to be there but its not set in stone. I am launching at the old ferry landing in new roads so if there is anything near there any help would be appreciated bit time!!! Thanks in advance!
For the guys the duck hunt Biloxi WMA and use surface drives or anything bigger than a 16hp engine, we might want to pay attention to the proposed horse power restrictions for Biloxi WMA.
Below is from the wild life and fisheries web site.
'Limiting the use of mud boats or air-cooled propulsion vessels on Biloxi WMA to straight shaft, long tail, air-cooled mud motors that are 16 total....
I've heard several peoplemention that there is a good number if hogs in Sherburne. I really want to stick an 2'rage through one. Does anyone know of a good place to start looking for hogs in Sherburne?? Thanks in advance!

I hunt the marshes for duck season and I fish the Atchafalaya Basin year round, and I want to start duck hunting the basin as well. Can anyone share a little advice on how to scout the basin timber areas for ducks. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Gonna be camping and riding ATV's at Sandstone Multi-use trails next week. Thought I might try to make a hunt on the RDNWP while there. Anyone got any tips? Looking at satellite map views, it appears there may be food plots scattered about? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Is it any wonder, after reviewing the facts regarding the fees Louisiana charges compared to Mississippi, why Mississippi is the leader of the two states in so many Wildlife Management Areas?
From first hand experiences, Louisiana WMAís, like the PRWMA (Pearl River Wildlife Management Area), have always struggled through low budgets, and Rangers claim they canít afford to put rocks on....
