The Good: Friday started off good with a long boat ride up the river with a few friends and kids to our select hunting spot. We had a short trip into the hardwood bottoms that was overlooking the hills and oak trees. I was able to get settled into a tree top, as it was breaking daylight I spotted a doe that had already slipped by but behind the doe was a basket rack 9 point that gave me a....  Read More

  • Hunter's of public lands should not be denied their Second Amendment rights!
It is truly another sad day for those that hunt public lands in Louisiana. Once again, the legislature, with the passage of SB 212 (2015), and the LDWF decision to not honor this new law for those that hunt public lands, has reaffirmed that there is a two tiered system of justice, or a double standard of rights and privileges, for hunters in the State of Louisiana.

Those that hunt on....  Read More

cant believe they let the lease go for Union wma! Killed my first deer there 10 years ago and my most recent last year there! Best chances at getting a deer on a wma in the state in my opinion always worth the drive from Gonzales! Anyone else going to miss Union ?

For the guys the duck hunt Biloxi WMA and use surface drives or anything bigger than a 16hp engine, we might want to pay attention to the proposed horse power restrictions for Biloxi WMA.
Below is from the wild life and fisheries web site.

'Limiting the use of mud boats or air-cooled propulsion vessels on Biloxi WMA to straight shaft, long tail, air-cooled mud motors that are 16 total....  Read More

Nothing like a good hunt on public land. Me and my buddy went down to Sherburne WMA on Sunday morning in hopes of shooting some feathers, reports in the area were conflicting but as most people say a bad day in the woods is better than most days regardless. Anyway we had a nice group of woodies/ teal fly in early, I missed on my three shots and my buddy's gun jammed; not a great start. Later....  Read More

Hi,

I hunt the marshes for duck season and I fish the Atchafalaya Basin year round, and I want to start duck hunting the basin as well. Can anyone share a little advice on how to scout the basin timber areas for ducks. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Forgive the potentially ignorant question but I ddecided to bow hunt on wma land and read that residents between age 16-59 will need an archery license but I can't find anywhere in Louisiana that offers bow hunter education.is it something I just tack on when I purchase my hunting license?

Gonna be camping and riding ATV's at Sandstone Multi-use trails next week. Thought I might try to make a hunt on the RDNWP while there. Anyone got any tips? Looking at satellite map views, it appears there may be food plots scattered about? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Is it any wonder, after reviewing the facts regarding the fees Louisiana charges compared to Mississippi, why Mississippi is the leader of the two states in so many Wildlife Management Areas?

From first hand experiences, Louisiana WMAís, like the PRWMA (Pearl River Wildlife Management Area), have always struggled through low budgets, and Rangers claim they canít afford to put rocks on....  Read More

Nightmares After checking the game cameras this weekend, I have a new respect when walking to my stands in the dark. Last week was my first encounter with a black bear in the wild and this week itís a huge alligator and adult male bear that are visiting my stand frequently. It was amazing to see an alligator in the middle of the woods with water a ľ of a mile away from my stand location. My son....  Read More

Saturday morning I and my son Nick, age 12 was small game hunting and scouting in Richard Yancy WMA. We have been hunting this area about 10 years, that morning we walked in the woods about a ľ mile slipping quietly and walking slow. We came to a log and decided to sit and take a break, as I was taking a sip of water my son said quietly, look, a hogs coming! No itís a black bear. My jaw dropped....  Read More
