Kayak Fishing in Delacroix Island in Southeast Louisiana
I launched at Sweetwater this morning around 9. I trolling motor/paddled down to Little Lake and Alligator Pass. There were tons of boats anchored out in the middle of Little Lake.

I joined them and caught 1 trout. Not to many people seemed to be catching. I think I only saw 5-6 trout boated out of the 20+ boats during the 30 minutes I anchored there. The wind and waves were a bit much....  Read More

Kayak Fishing in Louisiana
Would anyone be willing to share the best areas to catch trout in a kayak right now? I am mainly looking for places to launch, and areas to fish.

I don't expect anyone to give away their secret spot or anything. But, any information shared would be greatly appreciated.

I have had reasonable luck with redfish down in Port Sulphur (launch behind the school) and out of Campos fishing....  Read More

Kayak Fishing in Myrtle Grove / Port Sulphur in Southeast Louisiana
Just picked up a used Malibu X-Factor equipped with a 30lb trolling motor with a homemade bassyaks style mount and Sea Dog foot controls for direction.

I have a little experience paddling, and have been renting a 13' Wilderness Systems yak every weekend for the last 3 months.

I purchased a group 27 deep cycle battery which I think will give me a good amount of range. On my maiden....  Read More

Recently I had a friend who knew someone either at KC kayaks or a retailer who allowed him to do a demo of the new KC kayak “The Scout” for a day. I have fished out of the regular KC kayak for years now and when he told me about the demo I hopped on it. We decided to drive down to lee vile and fish for the day.

The kayak tracked very smooth and quick through the water. I would say this....  Read More

Went out the 30th..Cloudy all day with absolute no sun and winds around 20mph. I noticed the water was right around 58°. From my history, I knew even with the poor conditions, that this temperature was just about right to get the fish biting. I used past experience, and went to a sheep head hole deep in the marsh and picked up a bunch of sheep head an two drum. I then started to target the reds,....  Read More

Fished Bayou Lacombe last Sunday and actually caught fish with the camera rolling. Usually the camera means I won't catch anything. All fish caught on a mirrolure twitch-bait and Matrix Shad. You may see them in the video.

Working out of a canoe, and more recently a kayak that I traded my pirogue for, I've been returning over and over to the protected areas off of Lery. Last year, the grass was thick just about everywhere. Theres a lot less grass in the water than there was last year, but I've still found a wealth of bass and reds stacked up. Rotating thru gold spoon, spinner bait, and a red shad worm keeps them....  Read More

Kayak Fishing in Shell Beach / Hopedale / Reggio in Southeast Louisiana
Yesterday I went to Shell Beach and paddled out Bayou Yscloskey and fished off the rocks where it meets Breton Sound. I had steady bites all day and went home with an 8 lb red, a 4 lb black drum, 5 speckled trout, and 6 sheepshead. I was fishing the bottom with live shrimp on a carolina rig.

Went Wednesday, and water was low and clearest it has been in a while. This time of the year makes the biggest difference if you have the ability to stand up. I was able to spot reds left and right and even throw a spinner at a sheep head and he it, (Normally this never happens unless its dead shrimp). The drum was caught in deep water on dead shrimp. The reds just wanted something gold.....  Read More

I've been researching on Google Maps and the best launch site I can figure for this area is Eddie Pinto's Bait Shop just south of the ICW bridge on Paris Road. It looks like a paddle of a little less than two miles.

Or is there a closer spot to put in?

It looks like easy fishing when it's cold: http://www.nola.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2014/11/early_winter_drives_easy_speck.html

  • YAK SAFELY
ATTENTION YAKERS: PLEASE USE CAUTION AT NEW LEEVILLE LAUNCH. STRONG CURRENT & MARINE TRAFFIC POSSIBLE.

I encourage everyone to wear their PFD while launching at the new Leeville kayak launch. This area of Bayou Lafourche tends to have a strong current. On windy days, launching while battling the wind and current, could make for a dangerous environment. This intersection is also....  Read More

This past Friday I took a guy out for his first kayak fishing experience. The fact that he could not tell you the difference between a rainbow trout and a speckled trout didn't stop him from reeling one after the other into the yak. We got on the water around 6:45. We tried one cut for about 20 minutes with no luck. We decided to make a move to another cut where the water was moving pretty....  Read More

Hey buddies,

Still trying to figure out this kayak fishing thing since I yakked up last summer and, if there's one thing I know, I'm wondering if y'all know of some cold weather hotspots in the marsh for specks and reds.
