I'm looking to find some deer sheds on my property in Central LA, but I was wondering when the best time to go out and look would be. Also wondering where to look (main trails, hardwoods, etc.) Any info is appreciated!! Thanks
If you are tired of hunting and only seeing young, small bucks, or no deer at all, this ad is for you.
Growing big deer in Louisiana is tough. Our regulations encourage shooting young deer, which is unfortunate. Most leases and clubs either follow state regulations or have equally poor rules.'8pts or better' is a terrible rule. So is '15inch minimum inside spread' or '4pts on one....
Had a Great Bow hunt in Illinois this year, The weather was perfect, The company was great, and the Bucks were starting to chase does. I shot this buck at 15 yards, coming to check out the does in the field I was on the edge of. He went about 60 yards and crashed. If you've never tried the Rage broad heads, you may want to give them a try, they are deadly. I shot this doe 2 days latter....
Nailed this big 10 point January 23rd in the basin with my bow, during gun season, public land. Don't get any better. 17 yards broad side muzzy mx3 lung shot, ran about 80 yards. 180 pound 10 point. 7:05 in the morning, raining and cold.
On December 22, 2015, I fought my brother for the box stand instead of the climber before the hunt began. I ended up with our box stand, so around 3:00, we went to our spots. I was watching a couple of does for about 30 minutes when this beauty walked out and I shot. He ran about 30 yards, but unfortunately, we didn't find him until after dark. 240 pound, 10 point stud my first time hunting on....
Always use some thing like a 12' x 12' concrete side walkway block. There about 2' thick so that way it will not rot and last for ever and keep the legs from sinking and rusting away. I also connect cables to each side of the stand at my plat form under the sitting plat form then use a house trailer anchor and screw it in ground until its tight to keep the wind from blowing it over.
After several years of disappointing Duck Hunting, I've began to deer hunt (try). I have a 2 Arpent wide by several hundred yards long of what I call floating marsh grass. I see plenty of signs of deer along the canal that borders the marsh. I'm 150 pounds and I can barely get through the marsh with out sinking. I have a few questions to ask you fine Gents. Do you think the soft, flooded marsh....
It's been a while since i posted, but i figured i'd put up my kills from the 2015/2016 season at my camp in Bama. After years of hard work, and culling out some bad genetics, i am finally killing some decent deer on the property. A good 9, a decent young 8, and a really old/tall 7point i had never seen, that bottomed out our 200lb scale.
We got this buck on game camera on 1/15/16 at the Atchafalaya Delta WMA. The antlers appear to be in velvet of some sort. Not sure what it is exactly. Anyone ever see anything like this before at this time of the season?
Got a pic of a nice 10pt with long bladed browtines. As I was looking over pics from last year to try to identify him I noticed this small 8pt. has 3 separate burrs and beams. Sure hope he made it thru last year.
