First, CAJUN MIKE, Go to the LOWRANCE WEB SITE at
www.lowrance.com and select the DOWNLOADS button at the top of the screen, then select the MANUALS button to review all of the available manuals that are available from LOWRANCE.
You can go directly to the site by pasting the following URL in the address bar of your browser:
http://www.lowrance.us/en-us/Downloads/Manuals/
Scroll down and select the manual that is designed for your unit. I would both save it to a file in your computer and print out a hard copy of the document.
It will offer you complete instructions on your dilemma as well as the specifications and how all of the other functions of the unit operate.
Now about your question;
The way you describe the positions you wish to enter are stated in Degrees, minutes and ten-thousandths of a minute (DDD,MM.mmmm).
IF your unit presently has the POSITION FORMAT setting to the DDD,MM.mmm format you would simply round off the last digit of the position after the decimal. Any thing that is .0005’ or above would become .001, etc. Anything below .0005 would become .000.’
You should determine that this position you stated for the platforms are in the same format as your GPS unit. Go to the MENU setup feature and check the format. If it is set to DDD,MM.mmm, then all you have to do is to round off the position you have for the platforms and enter it into the GPS unit.
A position change in a format of DDD,MM.mmm from one integer in the third place after the decimal (.001’ to .002’) equals on the surface of the earth, a change of about 6.2 feet. Four positions after the decimal is one tenth of 6.2 feet or about 7.2 inches. Most modern consumer GPS units at their best can only discern a position to within 3 meters (9.8ft), so the 6.2 accuracy statement is not really significant.
If the Position Format is set to another value, such as Degrees, Minutes, Seconds and tenth of seconds (DDD,mm,SS.s) or Decimal degrees (DDD.dddddd) either mathematically convert the values to the format you need, or change the simply change the requirements to the DDD,MM.mmm format and enter the position you indicated.
