Anyone know what the fishing is like in the Galveston Bay area? What is the population of specs/reds like compared to an area like cocodrie or Big Lake? Will be spending some time in Houston and I am trying to figure out if it is worth towing the boat or not.
Fished Friday through Labor Day at Gosier Island, limited out with 50 Friday, 50 Saturday, came up short Sunday 3 people 68 Trout, and Monday (Labor Day) 47 Trout. Took the in-laws to Coco for Labor Day weekend.
Johnny (father-in-law)and I left Red Oak Camp Saturday morning in route to Last Island. Upon arrival we found birds picking on north side. He had a blast catching 2 at a time. Most were too small, but did manage 20 keepers. Went around to gulf side and found better trout. 24 nice ones.

I took my brother to Henderson Saturday and we located the bass early. They hit anything we threw. white or chatreuse spinner, worm, fluke, ribbit, rattle trap or crank baits. They were everywhere. My wife and I fished grand Isle Friday and Sat. We had 14 bull reds over 30 inches caught on large cracked crab! We had 8 reds between 20 and 30 inches, also caught on crab. We caught 12 specks on minnows between 16 and 19 inches long. All caught on bottom in the West pass. My son caught this crab in the lagoon at Grand Isle State Park on Saturday. We were shocked at the deformed claw. First thing we all joked about was 'Thanks BP'. This one is in our freezer until we can figure how to preserve it. We want to hang it on the wall.

I caught this 14 pound bass in Chicot Lake in March 1997. Once we drove to Ville Platte and back to Chicot for the official weighing and recording for the bass, it was recorded as 13.63 pounds and was indeed the lake record. Fished with Capt. Tommy Pelligrin last Friday and all I can say is it was a blast. Hit a few rigs and reefs bustin up the mangroves,reds,beeline and every other kind of snapper they have, along with an aj. almaco jack, porgie and Im sure I forgot to name a few.

My nephew and I fished the spillway yesterday. Good to see a healthy population of 10' to 13' bass coming back. We caught fish in the Murphy lake area, Catfish lake and Little Pigeon. Find good moving water and you have fish. Even caught some nice goggle eyes on texas-rigged plastics. Might break out the jig poles and tube jigs next weekend :)
Hit up Grand Isle Saturday. I didn't realize the Redfish Rodeo was going on, but no big deal. Everyone seemed to be off the trout and sinking cut bait for reds in the pass.

I have an La Traveler that has set up for 2 yrs with a full tank of gas. What is the best way to dispose of it? In the past, I have mixed fresh gas with some old and gone with it. Thoughts on mixing in some Stabil water remover, pumping out half that gas and refilling with fresh ETHANOL FREE gas???

Saturday and Sunday nights the Bull Reds were running off of the fishing pier in Grand Isle State Park. Average weight 20 - 25 lbs. Heres a picture of the 25 pounder my son caught. A beautiful morning in the marsh ! Plenty droves of bluewing teal this AM and all the reds we wanted. Didn't leave the camp until 7:45 andback for 10:45 with 15 nice reds. White spinnerbaits and LSU chubs worked best in the duckponds. Greg Givens joined Deadeye Chris and I with a good time enjoyed by all. Great weather for the Labor Day weekend. Good luck fishing.
