Crawfishing

Has anybody tried to catch any crawfish anywhere? I know it's early for wild caught because the water is still cold, but I'm itching to catch and boil up some. Saw a few people testing some waters out but just wondering if anybody knows for themselves or heard any word. Also, what's the best place to get some beef melt around Baton Rouge??

selling wild?
I've seen pond crawfish for sale but not wild. I haven't had the time to really go scout. I know come March 15th I'm heading over the South Farm at Sherburne WMA and some of my old spots in the Spillway to catch them. But I'd appreciate the feedback if you do scout it out.

marsh crawfish
My grandfather is catching about a sack a day in 17 cages in our marsh. The size is nicer than what is coming out of the fields now.

Crawfish Time!!!!!!
There a place in North Ramah where use to be Ponds&privately owned. Awhile back the state purchased it&made public fishin ground out of it. You have to go in by 4 wheeler use set nets and can catch 150 lbs i think it is, They have a lil check in&out station. Its on west side the leeve. Get on leeve@Ramah go right and it will be on your left good luck

bait
I found beef melt at Scalian's on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. It's close to the old bridge near Pizza Hut. And no I'm not wasting it this early in the year. Wait till March at least. Not saying you won't catch any, but you might just be wasting your time and bait if you go too early.

South Farm Regs.
Anyone between the ages of 16 and 59 using the WMA must possess one of the following: a Wild Louisiana Stamp, a valid Louisiana fishing license, or a valid Louisiana hunting license. Persons 15 and younger or older than 60 years of age are exempt from this requirement.

Recreational crawfishing is limited to set nets or recreational wire traps with a 100-pound limit per vehicle or boat per day. Crawfishing is allowed from daylight to dark seven days a week.

For anyone utilizing recreational wire traps, a valid basic fishing and recreational gear license must be in their possession and each trap must be tagged with name and recreational license number.

Only 35 recreational traps are allowed per license, and no traps or nets may be left overnight. Also, no motorized watercraft are allowed on the South Farm complex. Walk-in or ATV access is provided to the crawfish ponds from the parking area. ATV's may be used on limestone roads only and not beyond NO ATV warning signs

I appreciate the input, fellas. And yeah, I still think it's early for most places but I don't mind scouting out a few places to know for sure.

Where in Avoyelles
Is the place you are going in Avoyelles private or public. I would love to go catch some but will be out of town for a military school for the month of March. Would love to know where it is if it is public. Thanks in advance.
