i used to go to the boat show every year (with family most times) and it wasnt to buy but just to see everything but the boat show ''left me'' so i dont go anymore, even when i NEED to buy a boat or motor!
there needs to be one in a location more to the east in laplace, hammond/ponchatoula, or maybe the mandeville/covingtom areas
there must be an alternative location that isnt so far east.
i havent payed much attention but i can remember there used to be one in baton rouge, one in new orleans, and one in houma so i guess they eliminated them all and thought one big one was better but distance matters and driving that far just isnt an option for me.
i do agree new orleans isnt the best place for most buisness but the superdome area is relatively safe and has lots of security so i never felt unsafe there.
As far as boats, RV's, ATV's, etc, the boat/Sportsman's shows offer a unique way to comparison shop all in a single location.
It's one thing to travel from dealer to dealer and trying to remember little details about certain makes and models. At these shows, you can go back and forth to each and really compare all in the same location.
I believe you can negotiate better deals since the competition is so close at hand and they know all you have to do is walk a couple hundred feet to give their competition your business. In order to get firm quotes, you should be a serious buyer and not just wasting their time.
I've been going/participating in the Louisiana Sportsman Show for decades and I have to say that since the Sportsman folks got involved, there has been a really big improvement. Last year's crowds were amazing!
Chris, I agree. The La Sportsman folks brought the show up a notch. I negotiated a great deal on my boat there last year. Great chance to see all of the competition in one place. I actually changed my mind on the brand after comparing several mfg. side by side.
Keakar, Houma still has a show in Jan. the Baton Rouge show is this weekend, the New Orleans boat show is Mar. 7-10, and I'm pretty sure Slidell has one a little later in the year. If a person wants to see boats, there's plenty of opportunities in easy driving distance. Personally I love a road trip. I've been to all of them, but the Sportsman's show has them all beat. Something for everyone.
I will not be going, it needs to come back to New Orleans.....just my opinion.
