I was in Academy this evening in Metairie. The guy at the gun counter told me they had ammo at the customer service counter. I went up there and they had 6 boxes of Hornady .40 cal. at $21.00 per box. I told the girl behind the counter that I wanted 2 boxes. She brought me one, so I told her I wanted 2. She said store policy was only one box per person per day, but I could buy 3 boxes if they were different 'sizes'. I am sure she meant different caliber bullets. I told her that is ignorant and she told me its store policy... I will be at Cabelas in the morning. Academy is going to the pits! Just my thoughts...
I am a long time loyal Academy customer. I have been terribly disappointed with the gun department the past couple of months. Just this morning I called and asked if they had any .40 caliber ammo - they said they do not. I called back and asked for customer service and guess what - they had .40 caliber ammo. Of course, you can only buy one box though.
Normally, when buying a gun, the dealer will sell you a gun even if they have not received a response to the background check after 3 days. Academy does not. I waited thirty days and nothing. Then they said I could start the process all over. I understand why they might think that's a good idea, I just found it very annoying. I went to Bass Pro instead and they matched Academy's price.
I work for Academy. Corporate has required that we pull all Modern Sporting Rifles from display. If we have it, you can buy it. MSR's are selling as fast as we get them. There is a shortage of ammo across the country right now. Just check Fox News, they did a story on it at noon today. We are limiting 1 box of ammo per caliber, per day, per customer b/c we are getting a very limited supply. This way, everyone can get some, not just 1 guy buying all 30 boxes we have today.
Sam, there was not misinterpretation. The girl behind the customer service counter told me I could buy 3 boxes of ammo, but they had to be different calibers.
I am also disappointed with their policy on sales of guns if a NIC check goes on a delay (wait). I also run into a delay every time I purchase a gun whether at Academy or Puglias. I posted a couple months back about obtaining a UPIN number so there is no wait, but it seems that trying to get a UPIN number just flags you name and SS# even more.
I'm not sure what store you work at but where I live I witnessed them boxing every 'assault rifle' up and when I asked if they were for sale was told that they CANNOT sell due to corporate policy. I go in about once a week and ask and they are still not selling them but have them stored in the store. There are so few boxes of any type of rifle ammo that it's not worth going in for. Zero .22 ammo. Zero pistol ammo. And am constantly told they aren't getting any. What's the deal on that?
I was in the Hammond store last October looking for some food plot seed. I asked the salesman if he had anymore seed because the shelves were bare. The salesman told me he wanted to order two weeks before so he would not run out but the new owners k-Mart will not let them until stock got real low and seasonal items cant be reordered. Seed was a seasonal item. He was able to order some more but was completely out of stock long before the order came in. Not hearing anything about the buy out, I asked another person at the store in Covington and the girl dropped her head and said it was true. She wasnt happy about it.
I bought a Sig P250 9mm (15+1) a couple of weeks ago at Academy Slidell. No prob. Ordered extra mags from Sig website, waiting list but currently on their way. Order 3 or more free shipping.
One box ammo limit but they didn't have any....
If you're only talking about 'assault'...er... Modern Sporting Rifles then Academy Slidell had gotten 3 in the last month and they sold as soon as they came in. One was still in the back waiting for the buyer to be approved but was sold.
The Slidell Gun and Knife Show is Feb 23-24 and supposedly you can buy a MSR there but I suspect they will be expensive.
My brother who works at academy corporate in Texas said academy does not have much ammo because they refuse to pay higher prices than normal for ammo like a lot of other stores are doing which will eventually drive up all the prices because of greed. Plenty of people are doing the same thing because they are buying all of the ammo they see until shelves are empty and then turning around and selling it for double. Only hurting everyone in the process by causing pricess to go up. One guy on here told me supply and demand was the reason he was asking more than double for ammo and I told him he was ignorant. Gonna hurt everybody in the long run.
Just wanted to clear up the facts. 'Academy Sports + Outdoors is a sports goods discount store chain. For 74 years it was a privately held company owned by the Gochman family, until its May 2011 sale of majority ownership to the investment firm Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts LP.' Kmart does not have any affiliation with this investment firm, it is a publicly traded company owned by shareholders.
Everyone make sure your equiptment is in top shape cause I have a feeling it will get nasty.

R they not selling it or they don't have any to sell. There's no law saying they can't sell there weapons.
