Deer Hunting in South Central Louisiana
13 year old Reilly Helm took this big buck the day after christmas in St. Francisville
Reilly Helm's prize 12-point
Thirteen-year-old Reilly Helm of Baton Rouge killed this buck weighing 176 pounds on her grandfather’s property located near St. Francisville, Louisiana. Reilly has killed her fair share of deer starting at age eight but decided at the beginning of the 2011 season she would “hold out” for a wall hanger. She learned the valuable lesson of patience as she went many hunts not seeing deer or passing on “shootable deer.” On a late morning hunt the day after Christmas, accompanied by her step-dad (Mitch Ewen), the buck stepped out at 50 yards. Reilly had just seconds to locate the buck in her sights and squeeze the trigger of her 7mm-08. He fell a mere 20 yards from where he was shot. The 12-point sported an 8-point main frame with split brow tines and 2 kickers.
Besides cheerleading and playing the piano, Reilly has developed a great passion for hunting…she’s asked her dad to try bow-hunting next.
