The best time for(specks) that is mid May thru mid June in the Delacroix area depending on how high the Miss.River gets in the spring.

Big Trout
If you really want to catch big trout around this area, I would have to recommend Lake Pontchartrain. Four of the top-ten Louisiana record book trout were caught there. Venice might also be a good location. The best time to put a trophy on the wall is during the full-moon phase of April and May. You also need to find a Captain who targets big trout and you have to let him know that you are interested in targeting big trout not numbers. You should realize that you will probably not catch a lot of trout when fishing for hogs. You might only catch 5 to 10 but a five fish stringer might be 20 -25 pounds. If this is what you are interested in you and the Captain have to be flexible in scheduling your day and many days will not be suitable due to weather. There are several good Captains on the lake known for catching big trout, ask around. I use live hand caught croakers 4'-6' for my customers interested in big trout only. We fish them free lined or with a small weight if the current is strong. We fish the bridges with the the Hwy 11 bridge being the best for big trout. The southern end is fished if the current is slow and we move north if the current is stronger. It seems that the tide does runs a little stronger on the southern end. A good day for two anglers is between 15 and 20 trout ranging from 3 - 6 pounds. We do not catch many small trout do to the size of the croakers we are using. If you want to give it a try give me a call and we can look at some potential days to go (504) 458-8737. You can also check out my web site at www.marshland-adventures.com.
