From what I've seen, deer are afraid of cows for the most part...if cows come around, your hunt is generally over.
I've hunted with cows in Mississippi and Missouri and killed deer in both places in Mississippi the cows come and go but in Missouri I hunt on a cattle farm the deer get used to them I guess I've also seen a young spike run cows away from a feeder in MississippiNow if you ask my buddy's I hunted with in Mississippi they would say that the cows are poison but they never seem to hurt me
Growing up I had a stand called the cow paddy stand.. Everywhere I looked there were cows.. I kept thinking I was never going to see or kill deer out this stand, but I was wrong I took a couple out that stand. I think they get use to the cows.. Also noticed when the cows started moving and eating in the field the deer moved also sometimes.. I started going to the stand on the cold days late cause I would wait for the cows to start feeding. I think you have nothing to worry about but everybody Is different. Biggest thing is the cows will eat all the feed if they can get to it.. Good luck
I hunt a cow farm and they share fields fine. Once the cows graze the gras down it starts to grow back short and tender the deer seem to like it better. They usually keep a decent distance from each other though, but I have seen them feed side by side.
I hunted through the holidays and in one day saw 3 different deer that i couldn't shoot for fear of hitting the cows that were standing behind them. They never did give me a clear shot. I have seen on several instances where deer and cattle shared the same food sources.
If the cows are in the green fields no use even hunting there because the deer will not come around. I know in other areas deer and cows feed together but at our place North of St. Francisville they do not! Not sure why but I have been there 10 years and it has always been that way...
I think I know why you don't see deer and cows in the same field often.....how would like to hang around someone who constantly yelled 'Mooooove...Mooooooooove'.
I've never had good success hunting around cows and avoid it whenever possible.I'm not saying deer can't be killed in the same area, surely they can and are.I also don't like having all those extra eyes around, too easy for one to spook and mess everything up.
I've hunted in fields with cows before and saw the biggest buck I've ever seen in the woods. Matter of fact I wouldn't have even seen him if the cows wouldn't have been around. They gave him away. He was trying to sneak past me on the far wood line and the cows were all looking at him.. lol
