Hang in there....

If you are old like me (which I doubt you are) you will remember the 3 duck limit seasons in which we only had 30 days to hunt. It didn't stop me back then when I could only shoot 3 ducks. Remember it's called hunting, not killing.....

30/3

Yes sir I remember it well. I'd hunt 28 days, passing on Christmas day and New Years day.

ducks

Its really been terrible ive been making some ridiculous boat rides to find birds..all of my good spots last year within ten miles of the launch are empty..ive been going as far as twenty miles one way to find ducks just crazy....in my opinion its almost all of isaac fault...however i think next year will bounce back it all depends on if we have the storms again

Slow

Some blame lies with the storm but we aren't the only ones shy of birds. My buddy in Arkansas is having the worst season he's ever had,he hunts all public land in 3 states. My brother is up in Tn and they are still waiting for birds, they have some but not the numbers they should have.

My sister in law up in Illinois just got her first snow about 2 weeks ago. Many lakes up north are just starting to freeze over. There hasn't been to much snow dropped over the plains states to move birds down.

This year we just got the double whammy,a bad storm and a mild winter.

Later Dates

The problem is not with the LDWF is it with the USFWS. The feds set the seasons and give ultimate approval to the individual states as far as the dates. It has something to do with pairs being formed late in the season and pushing the dates back later would bust up alot of pairs. I would love to see a mid December opener and run into February but it is doubtful. Look at Congress and the fiscal cliff. Nothing logical will ever come out of DC.

ducks

I think alot of the ducks you see in february are here because nobody is pounding them every single day like during the season. Them birds hate pressure it doesnt matter how much feed is there they will leave.

Few Ducks

I agree with everyone's account of seeing less ducks. We have plenty of land in Delacroix and most of it is void of ducks. We are lucky to have some family land that is holding enough ducks to get in some good hunts. This time of year you need to do some extra work. Good Luck to all the rest of the season.
