Deer Hunting in Louisiana

Deer kills

We hunt in Central La and over the past 3-4 years, we have been seeing our numbers going down. We are on DMAP, for what that is worth. I can see a down year or two from a drought or something along those lines, but we have been steady downward.

Is this what other clubs around the state experiencing?

What are y'all seeing?

Thanks in advance.

DMAP

We did better than normal last year. We were really sucking air this year, but this last week it's looking like it's pickin up. Rut's on in the basin. We didn't see squat until last week.

Deer herd

We have a club in Sieper, in the forks of the Calcasieu river and Sieper Creek. Our numbers are up this year, but more attempts. How many acres do you hunt? Members and what is the average killed and seen? Does verses bucks.

wrong

Apparently we are all wrong. According to Andy Crawford deer hunting has never been better in La.La. land and the trophy hunting has been off the charts. According to him tensasnwr and thistleaeight are a shining beacon to the rest of the country and a model that every deer manager is rushing to copy. He's hunted some of the finest properties in lala land for 20yrs and one day he expects to kill a trophy buck. In the meantime, as a meathunter hes glad that he has so many opps to killl his limit every year before nov.

Motorboat, Andy refers to it as 'dripping with sarcasm'. I paid good money and either he is misinformed, in which case he should do better research, or he is misleading, in which case i should get my money back. Its real easy to write in a mag where u dont have to back it up. Funny how they have experts on here for ducks or navigation, but they are silent or vastly incorrect on deer.

deer management

I'll say this again for you guys that missed it. If you want to get your deer numbers up than cut back on the doe killing. DMAP program is a joke. Manage your own herd, if you aren't seeing many deer and want to increase your numbers the only way is to stop killing does.

You likely paid $20 for an annual subscription. The website is free. Find something else to complain about.

Agree

I'd have to agree with that deerman . It seems like when dmap first started everyone was happy saying , we have 60 or 80 doe tags to fill . I guess some of the same ones are now scratching their heads saying , hey where's all the deer ? Everywhere you look there are dmap signs .

Where we are at , the hurricanes come through once or twice a year and kill most of the freshwater fish and wipe out half the deer population . For some strange reason , I've seen more deer and deer sign than I've seen in my life this year . Just makes me wonder how many deer we would have had before the hurricanes .
