You know those propane cannons keep those birds from just landing in a field where no one is hunting. It would seem like an advantage. That way you arent seeing flocks of birds landing across the road, knowing no one is there to shoot them. Does it have that affect? Or does it flare birds? I would suspect that it could flare some ducks that are about to land in your decoys, but I bet it keeps the geese flying. We hunt geese very near some cannons in Pecanaire. Never hunted ducks near one though. Its sucks if it messes you up though. For the farmer, it keeps a bunch of snows from eating the field down to the dirt (cause they can).

Yes that is the guy i lease from. He manages plenty land in that area from what i understand. If the cannons were furthur away it wouldnt bother me, but when you have specks working and then flare after the cannon shots it gets to be aggravating. We had geese roosting on our place before , now nothing. No ducks around anymore either. We can hear gunshots from a few miles up the road as we just sit there looking at each other in the blind.

I think you are just looking for something to complain about. The duck hunting in Welsh has been very slow for the past two weeks.

You can have the lease after i get out this year. I had to learn the hard way and i was just trying to save the next person from spending that kind of money to listen to cannons. Im not a hunter that needs to kill limits everytime i hunt believe me. So motorboat i will make a deal, give me 3000 and you can have it now, if not then keep your comments to yourself. Other people who are looking might use this information.

Me and some buddies leased some property from Reggie a few years ago. He claimed that what we were paying for our blind was just our share of what he was paying the farmer for the whole lease which we found out wasnt true. I have no problem with someone making money in that situation. I understand its a buisness but he lied to us and was never there to help out with any problems we had on the lease. When we showed up for opening morning of teal season there were hunters everywhere. He allowed hunters who were not members of the lease to come and hunt on top of us for $150 a gun after we paid the same as you did for a blind. That man is a crook and i wouldnt recommend anyone deal with him. Before anyone starts with the comments about bashing someone from behind a computer screen, I have already personally told Reggie this. Unfourtunatly there is nothing you can do about this season but I feel the same way you do. I want other people to know so they dont get screwed over the same way. This isnt a complaint about not killing ducks because we did. This is just about how things were handled.

Thanks for that info, thats what i was trying to put out there. This is the second year in a row i got screwed with a lease. There is alot of good people out there that are willing to pay money for a decent place to hunt, but you have these people that will sell anything. Next year when i get out someone will come right behind me and lease it, so they aint worried about it. Dmorvant where did yall end up going?

My buddies still lease the same property. I gave up my spot a couple of years ago because I thought I was getting deployed again. They ended up going to the farmer about the problems we were having and when he realized what we were paying and how much he wasnt getting he decided to lease to us directly.

Wow that stinks 36. Pay that kind of money, you shouldnt' have to put up with that. You ever consider hunting in MS? I see a really cool place advertised thats just outside of Jackson MS that has deer and ducks and a really nice camp for the same $$. I know that area, and it's loaded with ducks. Went to the lease sat. to make a hunt, hoping for the best. Conditions were good as you could get. Geese started flying real good, but the cannons were shooting regular. I watched the specks change directions in the air so many times it aint funny. There is just nothing i can do, my season is over, 6000.00 dollars down the drain. If anyone out there knows of a place i can lease for next year would you please let me know. I know there is alot of people looking so just thought i would ask.

I'm on a number of goose leases. One of them has a cannon going off in a field close to the one we hunt. And yes, it does flare the birds. I witnessed the birds climb for the sky everytime that thing went off a few weeks ago.

Just because it is a lease doesn't mean it won't come with its share of problems/issues.

1. Is the farmer/person leasing honest and trustworthy?

a. Will they come into the area and hunt when you are not there

b. Will they flood/buffalo as they say they will


2. What is the proximity of hunters/blinds to said lease?

3. How big of an area on said lease can you hunt? One blind?

4. Is the said lease only going to flood on rainy years?

5. Is the said lease in an area that might not be as susceptible to saltwater intrusion?

6. will you have to worry about crabbers, fisherman etc. riding around on lease disturbing birds?

So many things to take into account I wonder if public hunting isn't the answer. It seems that farmers, landowners are all trying to capitalize on the market for waterfowling. some of the areas are not good, or are already too crowded. You take the good with the bad though, there are some bang up leases out there for sure. Just like anything it is all about who you know and are networked with.

Dmorvant, is the place you're talking about north of Roanoke? Your blind was all the way on the east side of the property? I'm pretty sure I leased your old blind last year, and you didn't miss much. We maybe shot 200 birds all season and hunted a lot. They were crawfishing the pond right next to us and they had cannons across the road. There's a pretty good reason the same blinds are available from that guy every year. For that matter, if you find a rice field lease, it is more than likely up for lease for a good reason. Gotta remember when lease shopping, the guy before you gave it up for a reason. Don't get screwed out of a large sum of money like me and a bunch of others have. Do your homework.

The lease im talking about is on Tieje Road north of Roanoke. I was told the people who had the lease last year were run off cause they were drinking beer while hunting. Problem is no one leasing will give you the correct information when they are selling you the lease. I wish someone could point me in the right direction to get a goose lease for next year. I dont mind paying for at least half decent hunting. Just something for me, my dad, and my brother to shoot a few geese together.
