I have tracking collars on my dogs and try to keep them off peoples land, but if someone was to make the mistake of shooting a dog of mine then they better grow eyes in the back of there head mister tough guy. Then you will pay for the $2500 dog you just shot.

I'm with you on that one Cat. Don't let them bother you though. That's just internet smack talking. Heck most of the people that make silly comments don't even go in the woods. Keep the hounds runnin. Keep using that ASTRO GPS collar system too. It's how I keep mine on the right track. I can use the mapping system as proof of where they go too. I got dogs. I got a corn pile and a stand too. I like them both. I hate tresspassers too. Still hunters and dog hunters can be tresspassers. I bet shooting a dog is a bigger fine + jail than tresspassing. MTGo is right. If they divide hunters, they can beat hunters.

of course not! that's ridiculous not comparable! nice try. that fact is dogs obviously mess things up! and thats is why they are used! to scare deer. I do not want my deer scared and ran off my property. i manage my property. i just shoot the muts that cross my land. And burn down my house!??? wow what in the world!! you people get so butt hurt over a dog that you burn peoples houses down?? so ya'll would have the balls to come on to my property and want to talk? with a gun? or incinerate my house? Just control your dogs and guess what absolutely nothing happens.... but when you start talking so much crap about how you'll do this and that if you dog goes to private property...you can't do anything.. unless illegal. done rant sorry we do see this alike.

Don't own deer dogs or hunt with them and it is very illegal to kill someones dog. I own properties that I lease to dog clubs and stil hunting clubs. One of the morons on one of the still hunting club shoots dogs with his bow. Not hounds but the neighbors pets for trotting down the fence row between property lines. The still hunting club are losing ther lease.

jalger you sound like a poser to me. Where's your land? What's the name of your club? What area # you hunt? You make a lot of ugly statements that I can accept as your opinion, however I really doubt that you even hunt in LA or have land or lease here. I think you just want to stir up a mess. I know a lot of people that have guns, collect guns, make knives, and all kinds of cool stuff, but in the end they really aren't outdoorsman. Just posers. I hope when that deer dog runs on to your land (in the subdivision), the St Tammany po po don't come haul you off.

yup thats me

im just a poser you are correct. originally from fl moved here prob a yeah ago. prob got the bad taste of dog hunters from there. they would lose their dogs and they would roam the woods nonstop spooking everything and starve. and it would be illegal to kill someones dog on public property, but on my property? sorry for stirring up feelings about dogs. if just thought you had a very strong opinion so id give my opposing view! i hunt public land in LA and have 500 acres in MS. Now for the record i wouldn't touch a dog on public land bc thats just stupid and asking to be arrested or shot. that is not how i hunt on my property. and i dont tolerate dogs, coyotes, pigs. i have my land for deer and like to still hunt.

If a deer is so important in someones life and if his brain is so miniscule it allows him to kill someones dog so he can achieve having that sacred animal. This person has mental issues and should not be allowed to own a firearm. Thank god a little deer is not that important to the majority of us or no one would still be able to own a gun

you people are ridiculous Why are you trying to turn this into something other then dogs. That is the issue here. Alot of hunters work hard on their land and are proud of what their land produces. If you spent the time and money and labor on something im sure you would be protective of it as well. I also have land in MS, and if some dog is chasing deer off my land i have worked so hard to get there then your right im going to kill that dog. It is not my responsibility to care for your dogs. And again we are talking about dogs people not kids or anything else. If you are so concerned for your dogs then keep them of our land.

My opinion is Jagler is a poser or either a complete idiot because if you think deer live forever on 500 acres you are sadly misinformed. That amount of acreage aint nothing but a pimple on the average dog hunting clubs. The point is ( KEEP YOUR F-IN DOGS OFF OTHER PEOPLES LAND ). I have 825 acre lease and the guy next to me has 100 acres so when he turns his dogs out where do you think they go. Strait to my land. I am a still hunter and i dont want to put up with other hunters style of hunting on my own property. you get tired of hearing the same lame ass excuse that MOST dog hunters use. The dog cant read posted signs. Maybe the law needs to start giveing tickets to the dog owners for trespassing each time there dogs are caught on someones property.

Sounds like all these people that are against dogs and want to shoot them, sounds like a bunch of crybaby BS!! You dont have to kill an innocent dog just because he came on your property, you LEASE the land that you are on, you do not own it, just like the lease that I have, I lease do not own it, how in the hell can you justify killing an innocent dog on land that YOU DO NOT EVEN OWN??? Everyone has their own style of hunting, dogs vs still, just quit whining about the dogs, build a fence, or LEAVE. No need to kill an innocent pup just because awwwww, he chased a deer on what you think is million dollar property that holds the world record buck. Just get along with each other, we are all hunters (At least some people are real hunters). It's Christmas time yall!!!!

Im a avid hog dog hunter and I dont release my dogs on less than 1000 acres of land and obey all laws if my dog runs a pig from wherever im at to another persons land I cannot control that or stop it from happening. I do know that in the state of louisiana if a dog goes onto private property it is my right to retrieve it. Although I cannot carry a gun or recover the pig by use of a catch dog. also your 500 acres does not seen like much to a dog hunter who may have permision to hunt a couple of thousand acres around you. How about you use ur head for something other than a hat rack? Or just pull it out off you ass? I do not believe opinions should be made according to the few dog hunters who do not respect others or there property. I hate people trespassing on my land but I do understand that some things happen that can not be controlled.

I am not aware of any leash laws in my are please inform me. With the number of dog hunters out there and people who need dog hunters on there property for pest control it would be totally unratiomal to have fences around there land. I can do nuthing but laugh at you about your comment about the dog pound. I bet u the same guy that live in a suberb that calls the cops every time ur neighbors dog starts barking. You must be a kid grow up man have some respect for others becuase not everyone that dog hunts is a trying to hunt your land. I do know that between me and my hunting buddy we own about $20,000 in dogs only and our hunting clubs border each other and together equal 3250 acres but still ended up on anothers property one night but recovered our dogs and left. By the statement of 'get your head out of your butt' I simply mean open your eyes and put urself in anothers shoes. Ummm

A child is not a dog. If your child got very sick would you put your child down?

I am not in favor of shooting dogs. However, after having a problem with dogs on my lease we called the sheriffs dept. and they told us we can shoot them. The sheriff deputy went to all the neighboring homes and no one would claim the dogs. These were not hunting dogs they are just regular dogs that are allowed to run loose. If you allow your dogs(pets) to run wild next to hunting property you are kinda asking for it. I would not even consider shooting someones hunting dog that happened to come on my property. I would be very annoyed if one ran under my tree stand though. We have not shot any of the dogs yet. We hope it will not come to that.

I am a land owner and lease my land to hunting clubs. I also lease land to hunt own myself.I have never heard of a land owner giving someone that was leasing his land for the purpose of hunting the right to kill someones domestic animal that was on the property. It is illegal to kill someones dog that does not belong to you.The land owner could be held liable. For that matter you can be arrested now days for killing your own dog. And as for as asking the sheriffs dept.what you can and cannot do is commical, the majority of there arrest are thrown out of court for good reasons.

Basically if the dog harasses livestock or is a danger to someone you can kill it. So if you say the dog was trying to attack you you can kill it. You can not kill a dog for trespassing. The deputy was wrong for saying we could kill the dogs that were trespassing unless there is some ordinance in St Tammany Parish that says otherwise. I have not been able to find any.

2654. Right to kill dog harassing livestock

Any person finding any dog not on the premises of its owner, harborer, or possessor, which is harassing, wounding, or killing livestock, may, at the time of finding the dog, kill him, and the owner shall not be able to sustain any action for damages against the person killing the dog.

D. Any citizen or officer may kill any dangerous or vicious dog, and no citizen or officer shall be liable for damages or to prosecution by reason of killing any dangerous or vicious dog.

124.1. Dogs; regulation of; police juries

The police juries of the respective parishes may adopt ordinances to regulate, restrict or prohibit the running at large of dogs in the woods. This authority may be exercised by the police jury whenever, in the opinion of the police jury, such regulation, restriction or prohibition is necessary for the protection of wildlife.

Agree 150%

Jaiger I agree with you so much... I own land in ms and we spend a lot of money on fresh water wells, fruit trees, year round food plots protein feed, oak tree fertilizing, etc... We are on and have been on a strict management for 15 plus years and kill 4 year old or older mature bucks....

Then some dog runner buys 200 acres down the road to run walkers... And wonders why he started with 8 and is down to only 3... No respect... They can careless of true management and respecting people's land... They all say the same thing 'I have GPS collars and I know where my dogs are... Lol so do we... One collar from a walker is on a pig we caught in a trap and let loose...

Then these dog guys act so hard arse and wanna think they can whip everyone arses but why are you dog hunting in the first place because your to chicken sh!t to still hunt and you want the easy way to kill a deer and run real managed deer off properties you know your dogs will run on.... Because its easy...

easy?

To talk about easy i would say sitting in a stand over fruit trees fresh water wells food plots and whatever bait you desire is easy. If u want to talk about a real hunt try to stalk deer. Now that takes real skill and time. So dont go judging other peoples method of hunting when your using the easiest way. Dog hunters dont just become dog hunters overnight. Alot of time and money go into dog hunting.

Lol.... Been there done that stalking is for sure very fun and I have a few white tails, elk and mules that I did just that to harvest...

I put way more money and time in preparing a true managed property I own to watch deer grow to a full mature age and be able to watch 6-8 bucks at a time in one food plot then a bunch of dog hunters who buy a bunch of dogs leave in cages all year sh!tting on one another to hunt maybe a month .. To lose a few dogs that supposedly the dog hunters say they spend up to 2500...

The reason for what we do and what a lot of land owners do is to help build strong deer herds and knock out disease... To watch a buck from 1 year old spike and grow into a 5-6 year old trophy... Then to have a bunch of dogs coming running thru to chase and allow a dog hunter to kill knowing that is the whole reason they dog hunt...

This is why MS has great laws and fines now for dog hunting...

Well I do understand the cost of feeding and building deer, a simple sack of corn ost $12 now and thats the cheap part. Obviously I do not know the laws of MS. becuase I am a sportsman of Louisiana and as I said earlier on this post you cannot make a judgement of all dog hunters becuase of the few that dont respect others or there property. I am not a deer dog hunter but i do stalk and still hunt so I know how it feels. But I am a hog dog hunter and some of our dogs can sell for up to 5000 dollars and becuase I know the cost of dogs and I understand that sometimes the chase can go far beyond your land no matter how many acres u have 10,000 or just 1,000 (I hunt no less then a 1,000 acre area of woods). It all depends on the circumstance of the situation.

HIGHRACK

You have a lot of time and money invested in your property so that gives you the right to kill someones animal.I bet you have a nice vehicle that you have invested in also. When somone on the highway cuts you off I would bet you make them pay.

Mississippi

You know I sit here and all I hear is how great MS is, with their laws and dog hunting laws and all this Bull@@@@ about Mississippi. Dog hunting is here to stay, you don't like it, leave, you don't want them on you 100,000 acre lease (More like 1 or 2 acres...at the most!!!)build a fence, you do not own this land, what gives you the right or authority to kill another man's pup? I'm pretty sure that the REAL landowner would not approve of this, I love dog hunting, and I love still hunting, neither is taking the easy way out, just don't brag about all of what you have in Mississippi, sounds like to me you should look into a house in Mississippi and move there since it's so great!!! IT IS ILLEGAL TO KILL ANOTHER MAN'S DOG......PERIOD. This Is Louisiana, and Louisiana Sportsman....Right???? Oh and highrack, you are talking easy way out, how easy is it to sit in a tree, right above a food plot, or fruit trees, lead the deer right to you and kill what you call a 'trophy'.....to easy drill sergeant!!!!!!!!!!!

dogs

I did look it up and you can shoot a dog if it is attacking your livestock or you. There was nothing I could find that said you could shot a hunting dog that stumbles upon your property.

I would like to say to those who hunt with dogs that just because you do it responsibly doesn't mean everyone does. Although it is legal to retrieve your dog from another persons property it is not legal to discharge your fire arm on their property or into their property. So chasing down a hog onto someone else's property and shooting it is not legal. Not sure what the law says about chasing down a hog and capturing it on someones property. If you were to do that on my lease, however, I would shake your hand and thank you for killing the hog lol.

To those who would kill a dog trespassing. It would be much better to talk to the owner about your concerns than to take matters into your own hands. Killing someones dog could result in you facing criminal charges and you never know what the owner might do. On the other hand you never know what the person who killed the dog might do if you try to beat them up. Violence is seldom the answer. Also threatening someone rarely results in them getting the message. Usually it just ends up being a pissing contest.
