While hunting my buddy stand Sunday morning, Thanksgiving weekend, I began working my Primos 'The original can' Estrus bleats. I knew the rut was already beginning in Lasalle parish by the way the deer were behaving. I worked the can every 10-15 minutes for one hour. I put the can away. About 20 minutes later I heard a limb break directly behind me. A few minutes later another limb broke to my left and alot closer. I got my 270 rifle ready. Within a minute there he was about 25 yards from my stand on the other side of a skimpy tall bush. He looked straight ahead, then to the left. I took the gun off safety and took aim at his shoulder. I was muffling my heavy breathing as best I could. Then he looked to the right, and then up directly at me. I was frozen, thinking he's going to jump this cut. He looked down as if to step forward, and I shot! He went straight down and couldn't get up. This was my first 'Big Buck' I have ever shot at. His rack spread at the top is 17 inches, 15 at the base, and he has 9 points! He weighed out on some old scales at 185 lbs. He felt every bit of 200 lbs to lift him onto the cart. I am thankful & proud!
