I know exactly how yu feel I just got home at the end of last week. I'll be making my first fishing trip thursday as well. Like Capt. Elton said fish the 2 lakes and look for birds and also fish the oyster reefs. The typical baits will work but I always have 3 set-ups. Shiney Hiney, swimbait, and tandem rigged Bayou chubs. I'll be out there in a 21' aluminum bay boat with a mercury if you see me out there say hello and I will gladly help out further if I can.
Just watch all the fishing shows that need to catch fish for the show. They all use live shrimp even shaw one guy at Venice going the same. West side use to make fun of us Hopedale guys for using live shrimp now we only lol at them for paying the price the do for live shrimp.
Sounds like Capt E and fishaholic have pointed you in the right direction, the 2 lakes still have a bunch of bird action going on early right now but when they leave dont panic just start driffting the reefs. The nicer fish have been showing up and with the water temps falling and the shrimp being pushed out of the marsh with North winds its will be a great week to get out on the water and explore.
Also no live shrimp needed in Dularge, plastic is all you need until next summer. My go to baits this time of year are Highlife swimbaits, Matrix Shad and the Shiney Hiney, Double rigs are still good under the birds.

For the past month out here offshore, I've been doing my homework and have ideas of what to use and where to go. With you guys informations given to me, it was more reinforcement for my arsenal when I fish the Du. I want to thank yall again and hopefully see you guys out there one day. I will be there Thursday......
Man do I feel your pain! I know what it's like to be trapped at work reading fishing reports, I'm only half way through a 5 week hitch! I get home a week after Thanks Giving, maybe we could hook up.
For now about all you need to do is launch at Jug's at the end of 315, run down to the pass, on your right is Lake Mechant and left is Sister Lake. Find the birds, the shrimp will be there and the trout will be all over them. You been reading the post and know we all have our favorite baits, they all work, some better than others and I'm sure what ever you been using will work. Nothing but plastic is needed, no live or stink bait needed.
Give it a shot and be carefull!
Capt E
