Wind

I fish Leeville using Hwy 1 or Bayou Lafourche to devide Leeville in half. On a strong west wind the water on the west side will get dirty because of Little Lake & Lake Racourci getting beat up by the waves and the water being pushed toward Leeville. That is when I will fish the East side of Leeville. On a East wind its just the opposite you can try fishing the West side. On a South wind I find that you can fish pretty much anywhere and have good luck.
As with any coastal areas you have to be very careful with a North wind especially this time of the year through the winter months. Pay close attention to the tide forecast. If you start fishing on a high tide you can get into areas that seems deep enough to fish but once the tide starts to move out and its being pushed by a strong north wind you will find yourself on a mud flat in no time. Last year I pulled 5 or 6 boats off of mud flats because the water dropped out quick and it was an area that is fished regularly.
Like e-man said though a breeze is always welcome this time of the year to keep the gnats away but a strong wind from any direction can make your fishing a little tuff. If I had my choice a south wind is preferred.
Good luck and safe fishing.

east

north winds mean the water will be lower and south winds mean the water will be higher. high water can cause fish to get into places you cant follow and so you cant reach them while low water forces the fish to come out to the deeper main canals where its easier to reach them.

east winds are blocked by land so the water is usually calmer and cleaner, west winds arent blocked and come from open water so the water is usually stained somewhat to being outright dirty depending on the wind speeds and hpow long it has been in that direction.

depending on the type of fish you are after and the style of fishing you do this may not matter much.

i have seen the best conditions and the best weather days procuce no fish at times and some of the worst days with the worst weather conditions can produce great fishing so there is no set rules that apply but usually east to northeast are what you prefer for golden meadow leeville area

When the wind blows from any direction thats not favorible, I fish Fer Blanc, always good for a redfish bite.

'Let'da Four Winds Blow'

...remember they don't pour in or out all at one time...it really depends on how deep and how much food source was pushed into or out of the marsh...take two 'good' back to back wind days which can still give you a good edge on that third 'bad' wind day...not sure, but I think it could be called a 'short lag' !!!...cheers

strategy

The best wind is one that keeps the gnats away :)

Honestly, there is no best weather, just best strategies for a particular wind speed, direction, tide, water level, water temperature, salinity, and spawning season. Nothing like putting the time on the water and knowing a little marine biology. Probably the biggest mistake new fishermen make is not understanding why fish move and end up fishing the wrong place in the wrong month.
