8pt in Catahola KNF
Went to KNF Catahoula District some family and friends this past weekend for the opening of rifle season. With the arrivial of the cold front i could not ask for better weather. It was a little windy, but all in all a good weekend. I got setup that morning with the hopes of putting a lil meat in the freezer but by 10 am not even a squirrel would move in my area. Climbed down and went back to camp to start the Hen gumbo. Headed back to my climber around 3 and was still rather windy. Around 5:40 I was wondering to my self WHY do we do this. Well about this time wind stopped and woods went dead calm. Decided to try out my grunt, and then my question was soon answered. I heard movement in the thicket to my Northwest and began seeing flashs of a deer through the woods. He came in to about 40 yards and i saw bone on his head but decided to concentrate on his body, when he stepped into a small shooting lane i let the ole 30-06 do the talking. Was a lil worried about shot placement, so i hurried and bolted and as soon as i got him in my scope again he did his death roll. That was about the hardest 30 min (more like 10, i couldn't sit no longer) i ever sat on a stand. When i walked up on this deer, i relized that ground shrinkage is just a myth. Tried to send out some text messages but phone was dead. Went meet up with my brother-in-law at his tree about 250yards away, told him sorry to mess up your hunt but i had to tell someone and he needed to come see right away!!
