Cold fronts this time of year pull white shrimp out of lake Maurepas into lake P. Specks and reds can be caught at powerlines and along lakeshore if you can find them. The problem with fishing southwest corner of lake is rough and dirry water. Afetr fronts churn up the lake, the periods of west winds and calm winds needed to clear up water usually leaves a small window of oppurnity if any before the wing goes back around to the east again. The water usually clears up near the lakeshore first, then along the powerlines. There are old well sites back of Laplace. The structures are gone bur shell pads remain. You can get a map from Lake Pontchatrain Basin foundation. This map has locations of old wells, current rigs and artificial reefs. Some years are better than others. A few years ago specks were caught where crosscut canal goes to lake. I haven't been fishing out there lately. Just my 2cents.
We went last weekend&found 8-10 boats fishin the South Pass where it meets the Lake Never seen nothing being caught except for Sting Rays not even a Catfish, Now I've been told Powerlines to the Left when ya get too Lake But was strong Out goin current Followed w/dirty water on the North Side the Pass along shoreline,To the right when you meet Lake there a point there around southside Point If you find Clear Water GOOD LUCK!!!
Not too many people trout fish over there. I've caught a few here and there, but nothing consistent enough to write home about. I also rarely fish over there anymore. I used to do pretty well with reds around the mouth of the Tangipahoa and along the shorelines over there. Never fished the powerlines much.
