Finally made a deer hunt
Jumped up a number of deer on my walk in. Not long after being on stand a young three point comes by... 10 yrds max! Something past me got him skitish ... maybe squirrels or maybe a big buck but he stopped right near me and kept looking off in the direction he was headed but he wouldn't go any further. Finally he moves off in a different direction.
Short while later I hear deer about forty yards out. Same trail the buck came down. Tail is up as deer runs right and then away. Then a second deer runs back the way they came. I guess they smelled me but neither blew?????
Sighted my rifle in during lunch and it needed it. It was about 8 inches high and to the left about 4!
Evening hunt I lost a few games of chess that I was up early in on my phone and then let out a couple of choice words by accident. Thump thump thumb goes the deer. grrrrrrrr
Later closer to dark I see a deer way off on my neighbors land. Drive home.
Oh and jumped up deer on the walk in for the evening hunt as well. 3 in a group which I split up. Probably should have hunted right there as it was right by one of my stands. Might have caught them regrouping back where I scared them off. Oh well, I wanted to see everything first anyway.

Gotta be something in it the squirrels and rodents like or need. I've seen them chew up lots of fence ties on chain link fences.
Heard of them eating the alum. fence ties before!!

I always learn something new. I never would have believed it but live and learn. Squirrels chewing aluminum.....who'da thunk it?
No idea why. Just know they do. I've repaired a lot of fence because of them.

It really isn't a hijack. I posted the picture and put a long paragraph asking if it might be deer. Never seen this before and initially thought squirrels.
The ladder step has been on the ground leaning against that tree for over a year. Teeth marks are only on the top half and never occured when the step was up higher in the tree. Squirrels can climb... I have seen'em!
Why would the squirrels never mess with it when it is in the tree? Why only the top part of the step... perfect deer height.
Of course deer or squirrels have never hit these when they were the bottom step either????? I guess squirrels but still kinda strange.
Mike, if you want to find out what's doing it, put a trail cam on it.
Must be a juvenile critter eating that paint off the ladder, you know how kids seem to be attracted to the lead paint. :)
I've heard many reasons, but the one i think makes the most sense is that they are sharpening their teeth....
As an electrician, i know they chew wires because of a mineral they get from it or atleast taste in it.
