I stayed at Bayou Corne last year for several days and fished down toward Lake Verret, but never worked the lake due to local warnings about how it can become nasty. I suppose if you stayed near near a quick exit point from the lake it might safe. Of course watching weather reports should help. Next time I stay at Mr. Landry's on Bayou Corne I do want to check out Verret.
With a 12ft flat you need to stay out of Lake Verett itself. That water can get bad quicker than anywhere I've ever seen.
However, there are PLENTY of places to fish in the bayou's off of Lake Verett. You can launch at Bayou Corne and fish miles of canals/bayous that hold plenty of bass, bream, sacalait, gar & catfish. Whatever you want to catch can be caught in a 12ft flat if you launch at Bayou Corne.
One thing though - BRING A MAP OR A GPS!!! It is extremely easy to get turned around in there if you don't know where you are going!!!
P.S. Check out the most recent issue of LA Sportsman. It has an article about catching bream & sacalait from Bayou Corne.
Bayou Corne and most of Grand Bayou are closed because of the sinkhole. If you have a motor, you can launch at Pierre Part Bay and go into Grand Bayou from the lake. You can probably go as far as Bay Alceed. Go to Google Maps and print some out or bring a GPS. You will get turned around with all the canals, but some GOOD fishing to be found.
You could also try the Shell Cuts out of Bayou Sorrel. Not far from the landing and lots of good spots to fish. But you DO need a motor.
At Mr. Landry's launch he provides a small map of the area where you drop in your launch fee. For the casual visiting angler it's about all you will need, but I also had a larger map which was helpful on getting around.
Have been wondering if the facility was open or not. I guess the best way to find out would be to give Dennis Landry a call or email at www.cajuncabinsonline.com
I sure would like to go back out there for another week.
The GOHSEP site states as of 10/22: No market or recreational hunting or fishing in restricted area.
The site updates daily. Here's the link:

Hope this helps.
Do you have a motor on your boat? False River is a good place to go with or without a motor. But, Lake Verret could be a little dangerous. If the wind starts blowing in Lake Verret it can get very bad even in a big boat. False River does have a bunch of piers that you can tie up to or get under. Lake Verret only has trees. Now, to catch fish, Lake Verret is the place to go between the two. Go to the Spillway if you really want to catch fish.
