I'm not sure it was the ethanol-free gas giving you better mileage. I also noted better mileage this weekend but with the same gas I always use. Maybe cooler water temps help or you had less weight on board?
I was running it pretty hard with one less occupant than usual and enjoyed much better mileage.
maybe it was the cooler water temperatures, you never know. the woman at the gas station ensured me that i would notice better gas mileage and my motor would run smoother, but then again she is trying to sell me her product that costs 20 cents more a gallon than any other gas around so she has to spice it up a little. I honestly believe it was the non ethanol gas that gave me better gas mileage because ethanol is a filler in gasoline so that less oil is actually used in the gasoline itself, therefore hoping that the world's crude oil supply will hopefully last us longer. Ethanol sounds like a great idea in the long run but the fact is that since it is a 'filler' in gasoline, it burns alot faster than regular gasoline itself, so therefore less gas mileage. Its a fact
Guys, if you have not heard of my website, 'www.PeteLandrysRealGas.com', I encourage you to read it. Not only do I have over 1,500 ethanol FREE gas locations in Louisiana's 64 Parishes and Mississippi's 82 Counties, but I also have loads of information about ethanol gas issues in a page called 'Pete's Articles'. It is a FACT that you will get noticeably lower gas mileage on ethanol or 'Corn Gas'. That is scientifically correct because the BTU heat content of ethanol is 33% LOWER than regular gas! On autos, on the highway, you can expect to get 8%+ lower gas mileage, depending on the condition of the car, and around town, 10-12% lover gas mileage. The fuel mileage is not the major issue in marine engines however. It's the fact that ethanol is perhaps the best solvent known to man,(dissolving all gum/varnish from fuel tank walls and fuel lines, sending the 'gunk' into your engine if you don't have a good fuel filter), plus the major fact that it acts like a 'water magnet' and will absorb moisture from the air. The ethanol will migrate from the gas into the lower water layer in your fuel tank (because ethanol is 100% soluble in water), dropping the octane rating of the gas! Lower octane can cause your engine to run rough, and, if the octane drops low enough, can damage your engine. To make ethanol gas, refineries start with an 83 octane regular gas and add 10% ethanol. Since ethanol has a 113 octane rating, it brings the octane rating of the mixture to 87 (regular gas octane rating - I am a retired Chemist and worked in refineries) PLUS, the ethanol/water layer is corrosive to aluminum fuel tanks and engine parts. Using ethanol gas in marine engine is like 'playing with fire'! It will get you sooner or later.
AND, to make matters worse, 15% ethanol will be showing it's ugly head in some fuel stations next year. DON'T EVER use E15 in marine engines. Read an article I posted on 'Pete's Articles' page ('Reports Show Severe Damage to Marine Engines from E15')about a test that the National Marine Manufacturers Association had conducted last year comparing engine performance (they used 150 hp fuel injected Mercury and Yamaha outboard engines) on E15 and non ethanol gas. Three of the engines did not complete the test....they were totally destroyed on E15!

There is a wealth of information here on the subject, but I didn't see anything about all the gas treatments that are on the market that are aimed at the marine market for treatment of gas with ethanol.
I have read reports over the years that some of these treatments are reportedly good and some not.
It's all very confusing. Obviously the answer is to not by ethanol gas, but that is not always possible in some areas.
Do you have any informatin on the treatments?
where u been BRA? like they say NO ETHANOL, except in yur car or truck??? 100% gas u will get a lot better gas milage for sure and u wont burn up yur stuff!!!! ETHANOL SUCKS PERIOD!!! THE ONLY REASON THEY HAVE ETHANOL IS TO SHOW OBUMMER HAS CUT DOWN IMPORTS OF FOREIGN OIL BY 10-15%!!! he dont care if we burn up all our stuff!!! hope u have a fuel water seperator on your motor if u have been using ethanol or an aluminum built in tank??
Guys, I have an article on my website on the 'Pete's Articles' page in which I recommend to anyone who cannot find ethanol FREE gas for their marine engine to use the 'Blue formula' Sta-Bil (marine formula). I spoke with the Chemist at Gold Eagle who makes Sta-Bil a few years ago. While he obviously couldn't tell me their formula, he indicated that due to the poor shelf life of ethanol gas (about 90 days or less), the Sta-Bil Marine formula had a lot more fuel stabilizer than their red formula, PLUS, a corrosion inhibitor (ethanol and water corrode aluminum fuel tanks and engine parts) which to the best of my knowledge no other additive has. Even though I NEVER put ethanol gas in my boat tank, I always add Sta-Bil's Marine formula. I can leave my boat sit up for 9 months, and it cranks and fires up immediately!
As for the so called claim that ethanol gas reduces our dependence on foreign oil, those that claim that DO NOT take into consideration the lower gas mileage. If you take that into consideration, there is NO BENEFIT in reducing imports of crude oil. The reason imports are lower than a few years ago is because the Obama ECONOMY SUCKS and people are not driving due to $3.75+ gas prices!

u r a 100% correct ethanol is trash and its use is only political and it ruins our motors but what do they care as long as they can get re-elected again and stuff money in their own pockets!!!! we have more oil and gas in this country than all the opec nations put together, but obummer wont let them drill and thats fact jack!!! any arguments???
You're 100% correct Bert. But, when a business like ethanol gets so entrenched, it's hard to kill it. The liberals and environmentalists are very hard to convince that ethanol gas is bad. At least the taxpayer subsidies for the ethanol business was killed effective January 1st of this year. Now, without the subsidies, many of the ethanol plants are operating in the red and over 25 have either shutdown or reduced production rates.
The severe drought this spring and summer in the corn producing states has caused the EPA's ethanol mandates to come into serious question by many industries, States and US Congressmen and Senators. EPA is required by law to provide an answer by November 13th to petitions (after a comment period) by a dozen State Governors demanding that the ethanol mandate be suspended at least for a year or two to allow the corn inventory to be replenished.
Read my latest post on my website tomorrow. A second ethanol company is considering switching from making ethanol to instead make butanol. In the introduction to the article, I explained why butanol would be a much better oxygenate than ethanol, at least for marine engines and off road equipment engines.

Don't know how many of you also read 'Laspecks.com' in addition to LouisianaSportsman.com?
Laspecks.com recently added a link to PeteLandrysRealGas.com on it's 'Home' page. It is a black and red oval with the wording 'No Ethanol in Our Gasoline'. That's the pic on the 'Home' page mural on my website. Click on it and it brings up my website.

weather or not you were sold on it because of feul economy, you should NOT burn ethonal gasoline in a boat. I know its really hard to find many stations that have ethonal free gas these days, but its worth it in the long run. The damage done to your engine system will be time proven proof.
I personally will ONLY put ethonal free gas in my boat, ATVs, lawn mowers, etc. Only thing that i use regular gas for is my truck and thats only because of how much it gets used. 2 years ago, i put ethonal gas in one of my ATVs and didn't use it for 2 months. When i went to use it again the float stem for the gas gauge had rusted away so bad it cause the strainer in the gas tank to implode on itself, sending rust into my carb.......awesome....
