Freshwater Fishing in Morgan City in South Central Louisiana
Atchafalya Basin Help
I'm new to freshwater fishing mostly did saltwater my whole life and would like to take my daughter out to the Atchafalya Basin to catch some bream, sac a lait, or bass. I'm coming from Ascension Parish and not sure the best place to launch to go to the bayou pigeon/sorrell area and wondering if ya'll can give me any pointers to help me out. I also read a few reports of low water levels and just wondering where should I try to go and places to avoid so I don't damage my boat.

I have spent plenty of time in the bayou pigeon area and I launch out of the free public launch at bayou pigeon. From brim, sac, & goggle eyes I've had good luck with a blue & white trip tail jig on a 1/16 oz jig head, sometimes I catch them in the middle of canals & other times right next to the cypress trees & stumps. I majority bass fish and I throw a 1/4oz white/chartreuse humdinger with silver/gold Indiana blades, watermelon red super speed crawls or baby brush hogs (Texas rigged & weight depends on current) fishing along structure. I monitor the bayou sorrel water gauge and have had my best luck at 3.8 & falling but it varies depending on where you fish at in pigeon (north side, south side, etc)
My last trip out there was a coupe weeks after issac and we landed 35-40 bass with 5 keepers
Hope this helps out a little.
