Hunting 'Accident' w/ Deer Stand?
Oct. 19, 2012 -- Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents are investigating a fatal hunting incident that took the life of a Lake Charles man in Allen Parish.
The Reeves Police Department received a report on Oct. 18 about a truck that had been parked on the side of Hwy. 190 near Rodeo Pen Road in Reeves for two to three days and notified the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO).
A sheriff’s office deputy found the truck and noticed a trail into the woods. After walking the trail for approximately 100 yards, the deputy found the body of Donald C. Hodge Sr., 60, shortly after 5 p.m. on Oct. 18.
The APSO deputy found Hodge under a tree with a lock on type deer stand lying next to him with what appeared to be broken straps that would normally secure the stand to the tree. Authorities did not find a safety harness attached to Hodge or the tree.
His body was turned over to the Allen Parish Coroner’s Office.
LDWF will be the lead investigative agency and do not suspect foul play.

Other Accident....
That was a guy working on his stand got stung by a wasp and he had allergies to stings.... He didn't have his EPI Pen and decided to climb up the stand to kill the wasps before he left.... when on top his stand, he started having a reaction and passed out and fell from his stand. His wife began CPR and it wasn't successful.
He wasn't wearing a harnest either!!

That is not the same guy, the guy who was stung by the wasp was from around the Baton Rouge area. He was 46 or 47 years old.Either was prayers to the families and always use safety precautions.

Died doing what they loved to do
Prayers for the families who have to try to tie the loose ends.
I always tell my loved ones that I want to die doing what I love to do. Trying to put it in a positive perspective these fellows died doing what they enjoy.

My mother called me today because she knows im going hunting tomorrow. she wanted to tell me a friend of hers' husband died i think yesterday from falling out of his stand. I dont know any of the details other than his wife was hunting with him and saw him fall. I have a new harness for this year and will have it on everytime im in the stand. Also, FYI if you hunt in the homochitto forest from a stand as I do, then it is manditory to wear a harness. Not sure about other WMA's or public lands.
