The thread is still there.
I didn't follow the thread, but I have not had any bad experiences with game wardens.
I was checked once on private property in Alabama while on the deer stand by two agents. They quietly came in, checked my license, bow, arrows, etc. One agent also walked around my stand area obviously checking for bait which is illegal in Alabama. Everything was in order and they left the area.
Yes I was feeling like they blew my hunt, but not ten minutes after they lefy I arrowed a small buck.
I realize they were only doing their job and had I been doing anything illegal I would have been caught. They can't find all violators by simply sitting at the launch or check station. They have to go into the field.
I don't break any hunting or fishing laws and welcome and thank the agents for protecting the game and fish I hunt from poachers.
WE need these agents. I know an agent and he once told me that agents are praised and awarded for their agressiveness and for the amount of tickets they write. Reporting an agent because he violated your peace and harrassed you just moves him further up the ladder. If you have a problem with an agent don't report him to the wlf dept. report him to your congressman or sen. Coming to your blind or deer stand and checking you is harrassment. state police don't stop you on the hyway to check your drivers license. but remember not all are bad guys some have a job and do it well but some don't know what their job it.
When I was young there were a couple of real peckerwoods for Game Wardens up here in north LA(especially when they banned lead for duck hunting) but in the last 20 years I have only met professional game wardens. I got a ticket in south LA for not having flares in my boat but I guess that was my fault. I had one winch me out of the mud last year. Overall I've been impresssed with the ones I've met. I would get fired up if they came to my stand during prime time though.
I hunt all over this state and met a lot of wardens. I only hunt state land and fish the local waters around the canal. Young ones are the worst. Especially when two green agents get together with their knuckle head ideas. For the most part I haven't had a really bad encounter but I hear some stories that would make me hot. There's no need to walk /ride up to anyone while they are hunting. Most are hunters themselves so they understand what they're doing is wrong in a sense. Just cause they can and you cant say anything or refuse any search. Play it cool out there stay legal and enjoy Louisiana. There will be a warden wanting to prove himself wherever you go in this state. It's luck of the draw. Always been respectable towards them and they always treat me with that same courtesy.
It still exists... Forums/Hunting/Public Lands/Pearl River WMA interrupted by warden....
