10/15/2012 Grand Isle Bank Fishing Report
It was a tough one today. After looking at the forecast last night I thought for sure it would be a trout slam today. It wasn't for Nick and I. We arrived in Leeville around 6 a.m. and picked up some live cocahoe's from Mr.Terry over at Terry's live bait and talked with him for awhile and around 6:20 headed over the toll bridge towards Grand Isle.
Tide was falling hard at daybreak and I generally don't like fishing a falling tide at my bank spots. According to the tide guide, low tide was around 9:30 a.m. so we tried one of the car bridges where I don't mind a falling tide and managed to catch around 6 trout and a real nice flounder before the tide stopped at 11:00 a.m. (a little later than expected)
After leaving there, we tried my favorite rising tide spot which is also a car bridge and started picking up some trout. All of the sudden the bite just STOPPED and no more Grand Isle trout came home with us after that. I did manage to catch 2 nice redfish (both on lemonhead matrix shad's) and the white trout were in a frenzy also but those things don't interest me much so we packed up.
Plan was to try the locks area of Golden Meadow on the way home but unfortunetly there was a crowd there already so we called it a day. The weather was beautiful with no wind. Just goes to show that when you think you have them figured out and everything is in your favor, you could be dead wrong. But this is why I love fishing. I love the challenge and I love being wrong from time to time. Keeps you modest.
Suggestions:
Well like I said above, the weather was GREAT and everything seemed to be in our favor but we couldn't get them going. So my sugestion would be to pick the absolute worst day to fish and you may just light em up!
My other suggestion would be to bring PLENTY of swamp swatter gnat repellant.

Great report as always! Hate when the fish don't want to cooperate.....
