In the lakes and larger area's use glow/chartreuse tail cocodrie cocahoe's or depending on water clarity go to one of the clear baits with glitter like the Coco pepper. In the deeper bayou's and canals during the colder periods use the HLT Swimmer. Number one color is blue tiger, with purple tiger coming in second. For reds in the ponds and along the banks of bays and lakes use the Gold Tiger, reds always love gold. Good Luck!
Only baits I use are pearl white gulps. Shrimp and curly tail varieties. Will equally kill the reds and specks. Saves alot of money and time. I have had fisherman on my boat go through a whole gammit of colors and styles, changing patterns on the fly. I just have to sit there and chuckle. Not gonna catch anything if the bait is not in the water.
...the long average in October and November was most times flash...spoons,spinners and sparks or even a soft bait trailing a gold or silver spoon by 10 or 15 in. (sometimes a silver finish cork would get hit before the bait that's below it) !!!...cheers
P/S...Sam 'ya right...back in my day there were no tele-prompter guides...Campo just waved and smiled and sold me soft shell crabs (blowing bubbles) for $3 a dozen...8 hours after burp'n Mutt's bicuit's ??? cheers
I only have 1/4 ounce jigheads. Usually fish in waters 3-5 feet. Don't own anything else. I think we give the fish too much credit. They are not the smartest creatures out there. If it wasn't for our conservation efforts, these species would probably be endangered. When we are not catching, its usually not because of the artificials but more likely because the fish are just not there.
Sam,,, you fish thoses gulp under cork?..I bought some Creme name brand shrimp like the TKO or DOA they just have clear color w/ silver flakes, Its just like the the other 2 Name Brand Shrimp Made some way&@Walmart $1.35 i think there were each Fish w/ poppin cork 2ft-3ft deep 20-30 lbs mono leader w/ Swivelw/3/8 oz egg slip shot above swivel Works well for reds&Trout¬ beaking your wallet either like the DOA does
My fishing is very easy. Live shrimp when available especially in the summers. Fall time, switch to gulps usually 18 inches under one of those weigthed eggshape HH corks cause they are easily adjustable. I could tightline but its just more fun to see the cork go under. Fishing has to be fun. I do like to switch to market bat if I'm exclusively targeting reds. Now if I fished ponchatrain or somewhere with deep waters then my gear probably wont be beneficial but mainly this is for marsh fishing where water depths don't exceed 5 feet.
FFM...wish I could...that price was from the senior side of the Campo Family way back between '70 and '79...we use to get them in a 3in high cardboard box covered w/a wet sack..also he would always put them in a point to point parade dress order, all faceing one way...'dem days are gone !! cheers

The Mann Mid 1- is the best shallow water bait on the market. The colors I like are Blue Shad, Green Mullet and Chartruse. I have personly hundreds of reds on these crank baits. Check out fishcounter.homestead.com and photo below.
your best bet would be d.o.a.'s of course, but my favorite any and all colored sparkle beetles, bounce em off the bottom, fish em in tandem, under a cork, mix it up.
