Mike, etu Brute! haha I sense a lack of sympathy for my plight!!!haha Dont worry tho, a friend looking at another angle got 15, yeah! Seriously tho, after seeing hundreds of 31/2 yr old bucks, only a small few had small stickers. However over 25% of 41/2 yr olds had numerous stickers, extra beams, and extra browtines. But the thing is cams show most of these get broken off before the deer is harvested and they rub them so much that they smooth them down to bumps and u cant tell they were there unless u have cam pics early. Look at the differences in these two deer from 31/2 to 41/2 yrs.
Probably his father.
SB, i have been known to have herds.haha This post is a little tongue in cheek, actually i was very surprised to see these. It just amazes me that year after year these spikes turn into such unique racks. Obviously God has much more to do with this than i do, but i do work hard to manage the habitat that spend most of their time in. Found this pic of both deer when they were spikes. Notice the double white throat patch, this is very rare for us and makes this deer easy to identify.
true-cajun, agree with you on that, now if he'll just hang around till Thanksgiving.haha Ifeed dairy cow pellets starting in feb., these are high protein but are designed for milk production, so it gives the fawns a great start. Sept. i start using more rice bran for the high fat and bucks love it and will come close enough for good pics and bears and coons dont. Having good natural habitat and foodplots are important, but if u cant boost those then sack supplements will really help. Deer will only eat about a handfull of pellets at a time so its pretty economical. I also keep some protein blocks scattered in the sanctuaries because they last a long time.
Thanks Orion, i hunted an island in the river (willow point) for the first 35yrs i hunted. In that time i saw one alive and about 6 that people killed, one perfect 10x10 from claiborne parish. Then i hunted public land in cat. and conc. and tensas for about 10yrs.,saw a lot of huge bucks, no non-typicals. In 2002 i started feeding protein pellets. In 2006 i killed a 182in. non-typical and i have had 2 or 3 every year since then. That deer was 41/2 yrs old and blew away all the 5and6 yr old deer we killed before then. Hope ya'll enjoyed all the easy pics, the bucks have bulked up, lost velvet and left food sources. One pic of big 8 in a week, and look howwild he is now.
C-man, are u crazy? On my wifes stand?lol Love the name tho, gonna change it from metal box stand to termite mound stand.lol Actualy i would but its our yute hunt this weekend. Sorry, maybe some other time. I love running dogs, and most people tha see my land say, not only cant dogs run them out, you couldnt set it on fire and burn them out! And we actually had an accidental fire that burned about 100 acres 2 summers ago, and now its thicker than ever, and more deer than ever.I love non-typicals but this 8 with a sticker is top of the list now.
Na ... Lol I don't own a deer dog , only rabbit dogs but figured you'd get a laugh .
Yep that rice bran or whatever that is looks just like termite mounds . I was waiting to see some ant eaters or meerkats running around on their hind feet . Lol
You have some monsters on your place , looks like you gonna have a great year . Good luck !
Yutes , bringing my son to 3 rivers probably this weekend and maybe pearl river the following , if momma don't kink up the plans . Lol
Sorry to hear 13 is the max you have on camera so far. Oh well maybe next year! haha
