Deer Hunting in Outside Louisiana

Largest deer of my life

Just wanted to share the photo of the largest deer i have ever had the opportunity to take down. I got it in Big Wells, tx. He scored 159 3/8, it is the second largest 8 ever harvested on the 1400acre ranch. This was a high fence place but for the record,he is a native deer. The owner bought this place years ago and fenced in the deer herd that was already in place and managed the herd. No DNA or A.I, this is about as close as you can get to a low fence hunt in a high fence. Its way more challenging to get animals like this out of a WMA or a reseve, in fact i killed a 132 7/8, 8 point out of a WMA, some people still dont beleive me when i told them it came from the wma down the road. But in all, i enjoy any type of hunting and will harvest any legal game regardless of location. I just hope that the new antler restrictions being set by WMA will start producing nice, heavy horned bucks for my kids to harvest. Happy hunting fellow outdoorsmen....

gun

The owner had 200 management tags and I was able to use a rifle for this hunt. I killed this deer this past saturday 10-6-12. Just before the cold front pushed in. Thanks

horns

The chocolate horns are a nice touch on his rack, he's going to make a awesome mount. I have the guy mounting him in a straight semi sneak. I dont wanna hide either side with a left or right turn.

great deer

It always amazes me how that scrub brush, seemingly low quality browse/habitat out there produces such good bucks. Terrific deer, congratulations.

If you're going to knock the man's deer, at least show something you killed, dude. Everyone has seen your mom and dad's same two bucks 4 million times.

Congrats! Nice buck no matter where it came from!

JLS- your comment...unreal! That's like you posting picks of those 12' specks and someone posting some comment about how Louisiana is known for much bigger trout then that.... Oh wait that happens every time you post that worn out pic!

Clueless

J- the point of my comment has nothing to do with your catch. It's about you knocking a mans deer or catch or the fact someone won't give you GPS numbers on their honey hole! It's like me posting my boat does 50 and you coming back with 'nice but mine does 51'. And judging from others comments on different post I'm not alone in my assessment of your posts!

Have a nice day!

Pointless

You are knocking it. You are attempting to downgrade his deer by saying it is average because Texas is known for racks like that. You are also making a pathetic attempt to outdo his post by showing 2 bucks that you didn't even kill. We have seen those bucks more times than we can count. No one cares to see those same 2 bucks anymore, or your boat, or your same 6 redfish. If you can't understand what we are talking about, then it's hopeless.

Congratulations

Nice one. With 1400 acres of fenced area its not like you had him hemmed up in a football sized pen just waiting to be shot. As long as the fenced area is large enough to provide adequate cover and doesn't have so many hunters on it at one time that it looks like a pumpkin patch I don't have a problem with it.

Well at least Colby was honest about how and where he killed the deer . You can't exactly post on here without catching some sort of flack about size or where you caught , or killed , or why you did something a certain way .

I would have been tempted to make up some elaborate story on where I killed that nice deer or not even posted it , because you know somebody will say something .

Deer

Kingfisher - you are correct. Unfortunately, a lot of people hear 'high fence' and think that it means deer automatically become tame. When, in actuality, you could say ALL deer are high fence. The oceans block deer from leaving...

Seriously?

Stop getting offended when people confront you on your stupid comments. How many feathers have you ruffled this week? You personally are turning this site into the Jerry Springer show. So yes please stop commenting on others success unless you have something positive to say! And yes you said this is a free site to post whatever, so it is free for us to blast your useless comments!

And to take a page out of your book. I know I upset you but do you know any good spots to fish in the lake???????

Geeze

I see all the post and see it has gone crazyyy.... I didn't mean to get everyone all pumped up. I appreciate all the congrats on my buck, I can't wait to get the mount back. BUT.... For the record, the largest 8 point ever killed was 183, 23' more then my 8. That's not much, after all, I have a WMA 8 point I got a couple years back, only shear luck got me that one. 'Long story short, 60 yards with 3 1/2', OO buckshot.. One pellet in the neck and one in the gut, 16 pellets were unaccounted for.' He was 132 7/8 and he was a massive 8. To be honest with all of you, this is the 4th buck I've ever killed, I've always shot for the meat... Can't eat the horns, no matter how long you boil them, they still are unedible.. I will also be honest about where I kill, no reason to hide great places to hunt, everyone needs to enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer us..... On a closing note, a cold front will be here next weekend, so I hope everyone is planning on making a gumbo at the camp like I am... Happy hunting fellas!!
