Oil Leak from around propeller
Ok guys it hurts my pride to admit this, but I'm having a problem with my 1989 4 cylinder 2 cycle 88 Special Evinrude. Was out boating over the weekend and hit something. Had a slight crack at the forward tip of the gearcase cone that was leaking a small amount of oil. I was able to fix it with JB Weld and it seems to be fixed (for now). But I have also discovered that I have oil leaking around the prop that doesn't smell like unburned fuel but more pungent. What could be causing this? From what I've read could I have a busted prop seal? I plan on trying to do a pressure test tomorrow to confirm. My concern is that I haven't ever done this type of repair before. I tried calling the boat doctor and he said he would not just replace the seals because of the crack that I repaired with jb weld (claims it won't hold). He would want to replace the housing and said it could run as much as $3000. Is there anyone willing to offer some guidance, tutorials, hell maybe even help me do it for a modest payment? I don't want to attack this thing blind and screw myself over. I doubt I even have the necessary tools for the job. I appreciate any advice and/or help.
