10/06/2012 Golden Meadow Bank Fishing Report

10/06/2012 Golden Meadow Bank Fishing Report

Felt good to get out in and fish after 6 days of work. I wanted to check up on a early winter spot of mine in Golden Meadow to see if the trout are deep inside yet.

Josh and I arrived at our location around 6:30 a.m. after picking up some live cocahoe's from Terry's bait shop. The tide was falling and while Josh threw live bait, I worked a TKO shrimp off the bottom carolina rigged. Action was very fast but there were a ton of small redfish and trout. Every cast we'd catch a fish but it seems like it took a dozen casts to catch a keeper.

We stuck at it for a few hours and managed to put together a box.

I knew it was still a little to early for this spot but I think in a few weeks it's going to really heat up!!!

God Bless,
John Rucker

Pulled post
I pulled the posts that were questioning whether John was not telling the truth about the location of his catch. He gave the details of his catch--a lot more details than most others post. Some people may not like that he did not give exact GPS coordinates about the location of his catch. Do you blame him?

So he caught a couple bass along with trout and reds. I've done it many times and I assure you it happens everyday all over south Louisiana.

Forum policy does not allow direct attacks and all such posts will be removed.

Thanks for participating on the site--now play nice!

Yup. Golden meadow is typically brackish water and bass do inhibit brackish water.

As a matter of fact, I caught a large bass in a cast net at bonnabel boat launch in lake ponchartrain a few years back.

there are lots of areas to fish fresh water or brackish fresh water canals next to the protection levees.

in golden meadow all along the public park there is easy access to a long stretch where you can fish a fresh water canal

I didn't catch these fish by the area y'all are talking about but I have seen people catch bass in the canals by that park in Golden Meadow. Bass don't really excite me so I hardly ever fish for them.

We did catch a few undersized mangrove snapper at my spot. Mangrove snapper and Bass hanging out together. Who would have thought?!

Geohagens

I grew up bass fishing Geohagens in a little canoe from my uncles pier and would catch some bass and reds and then trout in the winter. You'd be surprised how salty the water can be and you still catch a bass is some places.

crabman 465 you may b right, check my reports. I'm OK Joe. We went mark our hunting spot SAT. Know we ready to go and catch our fish in our spot in back of Catfish Lake this SAT. O and by the way i did catch some bass and even a few strip bass in a canal next to the park lunch but that was a long time ago b 4 all this fisher man came to this spot. But they got there by the way of the pump and the were right next to the bank to keep them self in not so salt water. But like I sad in a big cold front this hole will have a few bass and a heck of a lot of speck, red, and black drum.

Non-believers

Crab man when I first started reading some of Ruckers reports ill admit I was a little skeptical considering I have done no where near as well in some of those areas but I didn't go accusing him of things like that. I just did my research and used any little bit of help I could get from other people and finally managed to figure out how to make some great trips like this. I've put in the time down there and it has really worked out for me. No I'm not this good yet but I'll be there one day.

In Delacroix i have caught 100 trout and 40 bass in the same spot, the trout were in the hole and the bass were on the adjacent flat in early november.
Some people catch fish and some people just go fishing.I have had people on my boat that can't catch a fish when they are eatin up.
Give the man credit,at least he post his catches. Some people don't believe the fish that i catch.so i tell them i catch them and if you don't believe me come and clean them for me for free and please count them.....LOL

Bank fishing G.M.

I guess I must of ruffeled some feathers with my comments. I questioned Mr Rucker's report because the heading states GM Bank fishing then post a photo of a box of fish with two nice bass in it. Was wondering where the bass came from. I know about the protection canal, fished there and caught some nice bass in it. Then Mr. Rucker when Searcher questions your location you say you didn't catch them in GM. Mr. Holmes you deleted my comments. I read your magazine for information not for lies. I won't be wasting my money buying it any longer. I guess you will delete my comments again. Have a nice day.

Thanks for all the kind words guy, you all are the reason I post my reports and you all know you can email me if you ever need any help or locations to try. I get dozens of emails from people of this site and reply to them all.

Crabman, you said the following which I will quote:
'Then Mr. Rucker when Searcher questions your location you say you didn't catch them in GM'

I gotta question for you crabman, where did I say that I didn't catch these in Golden Meadow? Let me quote myself from earlier:

'I didn't catch these fish by the area y'all are talking about.'
John Rucker
Posted Yesterday at 11:47pm

The area speckled_searcher and the other guy were talking about was the pump station and surrounding canals. I didn't fish that area and that's what I clearly said. Golden Meadow isn't confined to that little area of which they were speaking about. Sounds to me that you have never been down there.
You now look like an jerk for putting words in my mouth.

One more quick question(this time to JLS), why do you always bash me and then 10 minutes later email me asking to come fishing with me or give you my spots? I don't understand it.

It's people like you and crabguy who are internet fisherman with nothing better to do than bash successful anglers because you have so much trouble catching your own fish.

Anyways, I had to vent because I have put up with this from these guys for so long.

Chris, thanks for cleaning up my report. I'm tired of the same 3 people hi-jacking my reports.

TYHIBBS, put in the time to learn that area. It's a very productive fishery. Like you, I have had MANY trips when I started where I didn't catch much. Keep your mind open every spot you stop at and think about your surroundings, weather, tides, etc and store that information in your head and each time you go back check the weather and tides beforehand and fish all your spots accordingly. Email me and I will give you a bunch of my spots to try to help you because I see some of myself in you.

Fishtaxi, You are a awesome guy and it's members like you who motivate me to post my reports. I wouldn't mind bringing you down there. Are you on facebook? If so, look me up.

Motorboat, you didn't miss much trust me. Just a few guys who are mad at me for catching some fish. ::facepalm::

CaptKim, everything you posted is spot on and well said!

Thank you to Samarai, Shadrig, and secret forumla for the nice comments

Good move

I'm glad the dumb comments were removed. The fall after Katrina, I was fishing the Trestles with a certain, mutual doctor friend of mine and Rucker's. The water was so salty that fall, we were catching bull croakers on a consistent basis. It was the highest salinity I can ever recall in Lake P.

Dr. Trout hooked a fish about a mile off the Southshore, and it was a 3 pound bass. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes.

science and productivity

Motorboat thats funny.

Anyhow the science of catching salt and freshwater fish in the same area is basic. Saltwater is heavier than freshwater and do not mix unless something violent happens like heavy wave action or extreme tidal movement. Therefor you can catch Specks Reds and Bass in the same body of water.Speck in the saltwater on bottom will come up into the freshwater to eat your bait. If you are double rigged it isn't impossible to catch a speck on one lure and a bass on the other.

John is productive because he is dedicated and works hard to succeed. That shows character and that is who he is. I bet his bosses at work have absolutely no complaints about his work ethic.
Its the lackadaisical people that the bosses complain about. Its the languid that do not catch fish. Put in your time like John or just shut up. Calling someone a liar when you don't have even the basic knowledge to back it up?? Inane!!

carolina rig on the bottom

map quest

carolina rig on the bottom

..

...

just to shut up the non-believers

I caught the bass fishing the culvert right by the locks. I was fishing live cocahoes INSIDE THE ACTUAL CULVERT. The locks were open and the water was flowing towards the fence and I carolina rigged a 1/4 ounce weight and let the bait go inside the culvert. I caught two largemouth bass back to back and missed another. I catch redifsh inside the culvert and apparently bass now as well. It was my first time catching bass there and Ive fished that spot dozens and dozens and dozens of times. I have caught freshwater catfish there but never bass.

There it is, now shutup about it ....

here is a map with coordinates. ENJOY

Bass in G.M.

There are MANY areas in South LA where you can catch bass, reds, specs, sac a' lait, and so forth all in the same trip-even in the same spot sometimes. I live in Thibodaux now and fish primarily out of Bayou Black Marina and I do it all the time. I grew up in Galliano and have fished from T-Man's to Fourchon, Delta Farms to Grand Isle on both sides and have never caught a bass anywhere in G.M. on the West side. I actually started bass fishing in the protection levee when I was a kid and have heard of people, on occasion, snagging a bass near the pumping station. The theory is that they somehow got sucked in through the pumps. My friend has a camp near Bay Rambo on the East. Since the diversion was opened up after the BP spill he's catching bass there. My Grandpa used to regularly catch bass on the East side of G.M. back when the salinity level wasn't as high. However, just b/c I have never done it doesn't mean it's not possible. Fish will come and go as the conditions dictate and there are freshwater systems directly connected to the marsh around G.M. on both sides of the levee. It's not that strange around here. LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE.

and spoonman, Like I said, the locks were open allowing freshwater to flow through the culvert. First time I have caught bass there and hopefully not the last. they are fun to catch and these were really nice sized.

There were a couple of other louisiana sportsman members who i randomly saw fishing there that day as well. wish they would chime in....

I have always found that it is very 'common' to catch bass in the same spots as salt water fish , I call them ' Marsh Bass... ' ---------- I always thought the saying went ' ........then stay your puppy '' on '' the porch ' , think about it , 'running with the big dogs' is about running , there is no running on the porch , the porch is for sitting , so if you can't run with them , then take a seat and watch ---- can I get a spell check

Louisiana sportsman powers that be... You need to put an end to this nonsense! There are a few of us who enjoy posts from John Rucker and others. We find they offer a lot of tips on the how and where to catch. But because of a few that like to stir things up you lose quality posts and posters! If they go you will lose more then one follower. I don't visit this site or buy your magazine for this schoolyard bullying!

But you wont likely ever catch em again there. that spot produces some fish if you like to fight the crowds on the weekends, ther is usually always someone there. its no secret. just trying to keep yall streight. oh guys we are fishing fools in golden meadow, we catch fish, dont know about the others but i never miss a weekend of fishing, i fish on my lunch hour sometimes. no lack of fish in my freezer.
