Bob Marshall tried to tell it like it is. The guy is a Pulitzer award winning author. I don't think there are many of those around these parts. He tried to ring the bell of alarm so that we would all act on saving this Delta, but all we ran was our mouths, and little more. I have hunted and fished this area for 50 years, and I know this...the Delta I knew is not going, it's gone!
Agree about the wetlands loss, you have 10 years on me, but I remember how Empire you to be. I could go into a long diatribe on our vanishing marsh and whom to blame (short answer: everyone). The marshland losses make me sick. As a scientist on this issue, I have given quite a few talks on this issue on what needs to be done, and will fight for restoration until I quit breathing.
But sometimes its just nice to open a newspaper and know you will read a fishing story in the outdoors section.......... we lost that a long time ago with the TP.
And, you have to admit, while his intentions were good, Marshall's preambles became very lopsided politically. The wetland losses are not just the Republican's fault. That's not good journalism.
A recent New Orleans/South Louisiana fishing report on NOLA.com by one of their reporters that looks like he's 12, listed what the 'Sea Bass' were biting on. 'Nuff said!

Lake Pontchartrain
Fair. Sea bass, a lot of sheepshead, occasional redfish, flounder every now and then. A few trout by Unknown Pass.
Best spots: The trestle, Unknown Pass.
Best bait: Live shrimp (sea bass, drum) Avocado Dudley (flounder).
I cancelled that rolled up bird cage liner when they endorsed the muslim moron in 2008. Funny they didn't refer to the fish in the report as 'spotted seatrout' and 'red drum'. My neighbor just started getting the Advocate delivered to his house and said it's not bad, but needs more local coverage. I agree with you guys, hope they do more to cover local news, sports and outdoors. I give the TP 3 months!!!
I didn't interpret it that way. A shot dolphin is a legit story. But, the outdoors section has sucked for years. I'm hoping the Advocate will provide real outdoor coverage in the old tradition of Breard Snellings and By Hek. Consistent coverage on Fridays and Sundays would be welcome as well, plus a lot less politics, Republican bashing, and global warming hawing. That stuff belongs in a science or editorial section.
Hopefully the Advocate recognizes a market for hunters and fishermen.
