Inshore Fishing in Cocodrie / DuLarge in South Central Louisiana
REEL LIFE FISHING
What an unbelievable day of trout fishing today. It was a one stop and done kind of day. Capt. Chris Venable and I left Jug’s Landing in lower Dularge before the sun came up and headed to the trout. Armed with High Life Tackle “Cocodrie Cocahoes” double rigged we knew we were in the right spot as soon as we got there. The shrimp were jumping high out the water and the trout were following them looking for breakfast. We even had shrimp jump in the boat. I used the glow on the bottom hook and a purple on the top hook and it worked like a charm. The tide was coming in as we continued to catch trout working on our 50 fish limit. On one cast Capt. Chris caught a double on red fish. One about 6 pounds and the other only a pound or so, at that time he had a mardi gras on one hook and an avocado on the other. After we finished we took a ride and tested some other areas and found lots of trout everywhere. We scouted from Lake Mechant all the way to Cocodrie through the marsh looking at new areas and finding fish, it sure was nice to be back on the water. I had surgery on my wrist and had a bone removed due to arthritis. I also had a nerve in my elbow relocated so my hand would not go numb on me anymore. Six weeks to the day and I’m back on the water. Still tender and hurting but I couldn’t stay away.
The ticket today was fishing the incoming tide with double rigs tight lined. No fish came from under a cork, and if you let the Cocodrie Cocahoe get too deep you had a white trout so keep it high and reel steady.
