Pompano in the Sound
My good friend Mike Callahan called me up Monday evening wanting to go fishing on Tuesday morning. The weather looked good so my arm was twisted. We left the dock for 6:30 and headed down the channel. I was pleasantly surprised to see Michael Campo and his deck-hand Randy working the bait boat. We were the first customers to buy bait since Isaac. With a five knot wind out of the east and a live well full of “Guaranteed” Campo’s live shrimp we headed out to the sound. The fish gods smiled on us and the pompano were everywhere. The water was pretty clear. You could see the schools of pompano swim through and sight cast to them. The jacks were bad and the monster black drum were prevalent so you were better off waiting until you saw the pompano to cast. We ended the day with 40 pompano, 4 reds, 3 puppy drum, 3 heads, and 1 trout. An incredible day of fishing with a great friend.
Special thanks to Mr. Glen and the BSM crew for getting bait back immediately so we could fish the last few weeks while Campo’s was getting on their feet.
All fish were caught tight lined on Campo’s live shrimp!!!
Give me a call and get in on the action!!!
