The absolute BEST way to learn to fish Lake P. is to jump aboard with one of the pro guides (Capt. Eric Dumas, Capt. Kenny Kreeger, Capt. Dudley). These guys and others unnamed have been fishing the lake for nearly their entire lives and can teach you in a few hours what would take you years to learn on your own. I'm 63 and learn something new every time I go. Also, I agree with the previous post to pay attention to this site and the folks who post. The Dockside folks and Captains that launch there are a wealth of knowledge and will readily help point you in the right direction. Good luck and tight lines.
hazards in the lake are like everywhere else so just keep and eye on whats in front of you.
one thing about the lake is after heavy rains or storms you have to watch for floating objects out there, they can be seen for a few days after so pay a little extra attention when fishing after something like that because storm drains and feeder canals to the lake get a lot of trash washed out each time and you could find sheets of plywood, 2x4's or other lumber, and the usual tree limbs and logs floating out there.
note - often you will find small schools of minnows swimming around such trash and find some targetted fish hanging around chasing after them so its worth a few casts around them if you see some
