...buy the legging...even a non-poison bite the infection can kill you...(watch trash and wood piles also)...and never put your foot over a log when you can't see the other side...and you turkey people check well before you sit down at the base of a tree...you never know where they would put a tourniquet with a 'rectum' bite ???...cheers ???
I only saw 2 rattlers in all my years in the woods, but man do they fighten you. I'm more worried about the cottonmouths. I almost stepped on a young one sitting on the trail this weekend. At least the rattlers rattle at you. Luckily they rarely bite you unless you step on them. No snake gear for me. Tried those pants but they are too hot to run or walk all day in. I usually jog several miles with only trail shoes on only socks when deer scouting plus i do trail runs through the woods every week. I just run fast, watch where i step and try to react quick! Growning up crawfishing and lizard and snake hunting at everynight for a living I've done stepped near countless and actually stepped on a bunch and only a few that i've stepped on actually tried striking at me. A few even struck my hip boots but none ever went through luckily. Been bite hundreds of times by nonpoisonous snakes and never had issues healing.
That's one crazy dude handling a rattlesnake and a cottonmouth. I don't mess with the dangerous snakes at all. I just examine them and leave them be. However, I don't mind killing a cottonmouth. Some places I hunt are invested with them. Think I'm going to get me a pair of chaps to hunt the early bow season. I'm not going to lie, I'll be some paranoid walking in the dark when its warm now. lol Hope we get some cooler weather soon so I don't have to worry as much about them.
Buy some snake chaps
