Chris...I seen a yak a few days ago had one of those skinny fiber poles w/a fluorescent orange flag like you see on tricycles with four year olds 'drag racing' on the sidewalk...it really stood out...cheer
P/S...maybe one day it will be mandatory...(they did it w/vest and hats in hunting, road crews and Wal-Mart buggy boys )...cheers
There are gators in Leeville! I admit they are few and far between but just last year I saw two in Bayou Lafourche. My brother and I saw one nearly 10' long just a half mile north of Bobby Lynn's. I also know a few years back they had one frequenting Boudreaux's Marina. With that said, I don't think you have anything to worry about in your yak.
Good Luck. -YU

It may be not a 'speed trap' but if you go one(1) mph you may get a $200+ ticket! Good luck!!
No arguement that going faster than the posted speed limit is in fact breaking the law. The premise to support the arguement that Golden Meadow is in fact a speed trap is that you will without fail see a policeman waiting to issue you a citation if you do happen to ease over the 50 mph posted limit on the 4 lane and lower mph limit on the hwy 1. Also, it is indeed fact that you will get a ticket for going turdy tree in a turdy in golden meadow. Speckle searcher if you truly dont stop drivers for slightly exceeding the speed limit then we thank you very much for doing your duty with understanding.
Not only is Golden Meadow a speed trap, its the best-known speedtrap in southeast Louisiana and has a reputation decades old:

Watch out for the sudden drop in speed limits, go 45 (in 50) or 25 (in 30) and enjoy the fishing.
Baton Rouge Advocate featured a story stating that 42% of Gold Meadow's general fund revenue ($592,217) is derived from fines and forfeitures($248,428).
And, of course, we want everyone to drive safe....but this isn't about safety, but revenue on unsuspecting victims. But, by all means, ticket the reckless and fast drivers.
Lol lol lol, come on guys ur right its a speed trap theres one road and 2 cops lol. speed 5 or over and yes your trapped. By the time people get back to baton rouge who have gotton a ticket, they so pissed off it becomes a (fish) story, they convince themselves that the cop fixed the radar and uh uh he was rude uh uh etc. they give five on the main road and 3 in the streets its law. its an incorporated town with its own police dep. which means ur gonna have more police coverage per square foot than any other place and to make it worse ther is on road in and one out. every few years a new cheif is elected and depending on who it is is how leanient they may be towards the speeders. yall come on down and enjoy the fishing just dont speed you will pass a police officer where as the state policed roads are waaaaay less covered.
taxi...you are right...and if I was a advertiser my ad would follow where the attention goes...yet 'ya never know which way 'da wild goose goes when some promote things when deep down they know it's a lie...the best way to describe it is a bad case of 'contagious canards'...Louisiana has had it for years !!!...cheers to 'ya
best part is ya pointing out that the post got highjacked and yet you didnt even know what the original post was about. It was about gators and other dangers in leeville/golden meadow when going yak fishing. Which lead to someone warning of the speed trap. so honestly this thread is still right on track. BUT...if someone replies to this and starts a debate about whether or not this thread was highjacked or not, well then you fish taxi are the one responsible for the highjacking. Just Sayin!!!
I have been traveling through Golden Meadow weekly since 1973. It is and always has been a speed trap. I am proud to say that myself and hundreds of others I know have never spent a nickle in that town. I wonder If the merchants have any idea how much business they have lost over the years. Roll up your windows, lock your doors and drive 10 mph under the limit.
...what ever happened to 'Relativity' and 'Constance Motion'...doesn't anyone know 'glass' is liquid ???...'ya gott'a ride 'da rail and stay between 'da tracks !!!...from the Birth Certificate to the Death Certificate to a taxed bowel movement it's all relativity !!!...cheers
P/S...it's true about Golden Meadow...I understand our win or lose 'troopers' in Baton Rouge have recived 100's of letters over the years and has done little about it...(also hand-held, knocked-about radar by clumsy people has about a 3% error margin and our speedometers has another 4% and it's all related to LSU tuitions and four car garages) ???...I could go on and on and on like 'dat pink wabbit w/'da drum !!!...cheers
Many years ago there was an Advocate outdoor writer named Bob Scearce; many will remember him!
Back in the early 70's he wrote in his one of his columns about receiving a letter from the mayor of GM (I think his name was Autin) who was complaining about the mistreatment of La. residents by Miss. game agents. He was hunting in Ms. and had been given a citation for violating a game law(I can't remember exactly what it was,'senior moment'.) Autin must have thought Scearce was going to side with him. In contrast Ole Bob went on to 'pencil whip' him about the infamous Golden Meadow speed trap and how it seemed that those pulling boats were given tickets going only a mile or two over the speed limit and that he got a 'taste of his own medicine'!!. RIP Bob!!
mayor autin has been dead for 20 years lol. golden meadow has elections every 4 years and its not always same people in place. yes there were a few robo cops in the past but its not like that right now. and yes warn everyone not to speed like i said one road 2 cops not a good situation for a speeder. not many places you can still sleep and not lock your doors, golden meadow is one of them. and about the gators ther are some in bayou lafourch but not in leeville, not saying you didnt have some kind of storm or heavy rain that would have pushed one down for a day or two, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery that getting eatin by and aligator in leeville lol.
Our town is very clean and safe, we have a grate boat lunch, with lot's of parking space. G.M. we are the the nice's pepole u could meet. I fishing is better then LEEVILLE and GRAND ISLE. When you park your tk. in our lunch lot, you can count on it being safe because of our POLICE. But for the one that do not like us then --KEEP OUT. More fish for us.
Gaspard/searcher, the people down there are nice! When my two sons were just chaps, I was taking them fishing one morning. I stopped at a service station , pumped gas, etc. When I started to leave my truck would not start. 3 or 4 guys drinking coffee there came out to help. They tried to get my truck running to no avail. They even offered to pull my boat to the landing so that my sons would not miss out on the fishing. That's 'good people'!!
I got stopped on my first trip down there with my dad. We drove for 2.5 hours to get there we fished all day from daylight till about 2 hours before dark. Well on our way back through we were beat down from the sun and some hard core fishing. So the last thing that was on my mind was where we were or what the speed limit was.. We were just dog tired boss !! So we were clipping along at a blazing 38 or 39 in a 30 or 35 when we passed a police officer. I was like oh sh!t I think we are going a bit fast... I slowly tapped the breaks as I see his lights flashing and he whipped around. GOT ME!!! So I thought. Lol...To my surprise.. Very nice gentleman. Very well spoken.. I told him first thing that ' sir I'm sorry I know I was going a bit fast and when I saw your car it reminded me to slow down ' ' this is our first trip down here and we are beat and just trying to get back home. ' he let me go and I was very appreciative. Thanks mr officer. Now every time I go through I make sure that i slow down out of respect for the speed limit and also because The way the officer conducted himself really gained my respect. If they all acted like him I think that the town would have a better reputation. But my 2 cents is this. If you see someone with a boat behind their truck, that is the last person you should want to stop and ticket. Those guys are the ones that help bring business to the town. But I just wanted to tell my story. Thanks for not ticketing me. Sincerely appreciated !!! Thanks for listening.
There's almost nowhere in south Louisiana that doesn't have alligators, but I haven't seen too many down that way. Don't bother them and they usually don't bother you. They do get curious sometimes and if one gets too close-bonk him on the nose with a paddle. They do love topwater baits so don't throw one near a gator.
General safety concens: If operating in dark, have a bright hand held waterproof flashlight. Watch for powerboats at all times-they won't watch out for you. Wear bright clothing. Fly a high, bright flag. 'Yaks sit low and are hard to see in the marsh, especially aroung turns. Easy and cheap to make with PVC.
WEAR YOUR PFD!
If you have any other specific questions, just let me know. The fall fishing is picking up and you should have a good trip--may be a little breezy, but there are plenty of good places to hide from the wind in the marsh.
