I usually fish the spillway and launch out of pigeon. Plenty of fish and it's usually very easy to 30-50 in a day but far & few in between catching keepers (14' size limit) I live a couple minutes from north park and it's right at 60 miles to the launch. I go thru central cuz I pick my fishing buddy up on my way. Takes me 45 mins or so.
im from denham as well. i make frequent trips to pigeon so i am very familiar with the area.. it is by far the best place to go around here but it is very tough to learn the area. easy to catch numbers but hard to find your way out the first few times. i recommend following one of your friends a few times before cutting loose but other than that its a very fun place to go fishing.
either get a GPS and plot your route in so you can follow your track back out.Or learn it like i did (pre gps) Get a map of the spillway and start at the landing . go so far on the first trip then back out.. next trip start where you stopped the first trip. keep doing this till you learn the area you want to fish.
I agree with eman. That's how I started out with just a map and finding landmarks I'm still learning every trip out. I venture out further and further but I have upgraded to a gps. I'm trying to find some time away from work to get back out there before hunting season starts. Your more then welcome to follow or ride along with me.
Thanks for the info yall. I have only been to the spillway 1 time but will be going this morning. Putting in a Bayou Pigeon.
I went to false river a few times and the fish weren't really biting. the wind was really bad.
Never fished Henderson so I guess I will try there as well.
Thanks again for the info. Taking a GPS with me in the spillway as I know how easy it is to get lost in there.
Be safe!
