I always add a cup of bleach to my 300 gallon tank, but I've heard that pool chlorine tablets are good as well.

Boots, a friend of mine puts 1 gallon of bleach in his tank twice a year. I'd say the tank is at 200 gallons. It stops slime from forming in the tank.

I guess 1 gallon for 300 gallons is a lot, but it works. After a week or so, you can't smell any trace of bleach. I've taken many showers with water from that tank and you don't smell it or get that slippery feeling on your skin like you do when bleach gets on your skin.

...here's two negatives that overcome positives...buy one w/no Phosphorous and avoid any contact w/stainless steel...can't find the ratio for holding tanks...cheers

I long time ago when we didn't buy sanitizer the ratio of bleach to water for making sani-solution for cutting boards and food surfaces was 2 tablespoons to a gallon. That made it sanitary, but didn't kill you. I'm gonna use that ratio.

If the tank is completely covered from sunlight no algae will grow. I would imagine using bleach would only make you stink, dry your skin out and hurt your eyes.

Bleach may not be enough in our extreme heat. We also painted our tank a metallic grey to keep the sunlight from getting in.

Since our tank floated 5 miles inland thanks to Isaac, its all a mute point for us....... don't think its salvageable.
