Question about trailer brakes
I've got a question to throw out to all the knowledgeable boaters that lurk around on this site. I've got a center console with tandem axle trailer with surge brakes. My question is, do any of you run electric or electric over hydraulic braking systems on your boat trailers? This is a saltwater only application. I'm to the point I have to do something with my setup and I hate the surge brakes. I've been reading about the electric options online and basically read that it's great for freshwater but not so good reports on saltwater applications.Any thoughts, feedback or experience in the matter would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you had yours switched over - where did you get it done? I'd really appreciate some comments on this.

Surge brakes
They just need to be re-worked completely. I don't like the way they feel when they 'engage'. I also have read that they are actually not legal to have on a trailer. From what I've read they are supposed to be able to be activated without engaging the vehicle brakes which won't happen until you press the vehicle brakes and the trailer moves forward. Electric brakes can be manually engaged from the control box without ever hitting the vehicle brakes. I'm basically finding out what others are doing, what successes they are, or are not, having and get some ideas from others.

I once had surge breaks and I didn't have a problem with them. What problems are you having with yours?
