Benelliblaster is correct. We didn't change duck season after Katrina and Rita in 2005, so it isn't reasonable to 'postpone' it for Isaac.
Not only that, but how would you 'postpone' a duck season? There is a prescribed set of framework laws and protocols for migratory bird hunting regulations administered by the USFWS (feds). The states don't have the authority to make last-minute changes in season dates the way they do for resident game animals.
For example: the Teal season can NOT run past September 30, so there is no postponing the season when it's set for the final 16 days of the allowable season dates.
Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of our state was NOT impacted by hurricane Isaac in a way that compromises the opening of a hunting season. With all due respect to our friends, family, fellow hunting citizens, as well as the habitat, buildings, and infrastructure that were hammered by this storm .... it makes no sense to alter the season dates.
Many of us remember hunting after Katrina and Rita. Roads were closed and/or access was restricted and curfews enforced. I personally had to decide to either NOT hunt my lease, or accept the 6:00 am to sunset access to Cameron Parish. Many waterways were NOT navigable at all or extremely dangerous, but were certainly un-familiar with all the changes. I expect similar issues in some parts of SE Louisiana at least through the teal season.
But the season will open as scheduled.
I remember heading out for opening morning of teal season following Katrina. Went through two sheriff checkpoints (curfew in place)...'Where you going son?'...'I'm going teal hunting!'..hence the boat, decoys, camo, etc. To their credit, the sheriff's office was watching the boat launches carefully for looters traveling by boat.
Be careful out there guys, lots of debris in the water right now. Kill cords and life jackets probably more critical now than ever.
I've been duck hunting in Louisiana for about 15 years and I don't remember a season ever being postponed because of a hurricane. Issac was only a Cat. 1 when it made landfall, and most of the damage was due to flooding...which doesn't bother the ducks. Also, I checked LDWF's website and didn't see anything about it.
