Opinions & Responses in Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana
When are people going to get out! As I watch and listen to what has happened this week in Louisiana, I just don't understand what people think. Today, there seems to be nothing but a 20+ high wall of concrete that will even slow down these storms. These also create other problems. I have lived in Southeast Louisiana all of my 40+ years of life. For me it started with Hurricane Betsy, Camille, and so on. People need to understand that the coast line of Louisiana just can't take these storms any more. Millions upon millions of dollars are spent only to be washed away. Hesco baskets, geotubes, and burrito levees will not keep the storm surge out as we have seen. It is a false sense of security. There will be a time in the near future when these funds will dry up. Infrastructure and utility funds will dry up. I love this Sportsman's Paradise. People need to get it through their thick heads that building houses, camps, roads and structures outside of the Federal Flood Protection System (FFPS) will only be temporary until the next storm. Coastal erosion at this time, cannot be stopped. It takes so long to regenerate coast line, which needed to start many, many years ago. To hear that people in Braithwaite, La. stayed in there homes is stupid! They stayed because they didn't get any water for Hurricane Katrina. An 8 ft. levee was between them and death. The excuses of staying to ride out these storms when outside of the FFPS is stupid. No matter how large or small GET OUT!!!
