if its leaking from the bolt hole the only reason i can think of oil leaking from there is if the upper seal for the lower unit is bad and water got in making the oil come out and the bolt hole is just the nearest area it can drip from.
if thats actually a little hole there i have never seen that on any motor and i dont think there is supposed to be a hole there.
i suggest you dont use it and take it right back looking for answers because they shouldnt have an open hole leaking oil from the lower unit.
i think if it were from something that spilled during the work they did, im sure it would have been washed away the first time you put it in the water and took it for a ride.
something is definately wrong and if you didnt hit anything with it i would suspect something happened during the work they did.
All they did was change the lower unit oil and engine oil. I didn't hit anything that I know of, so this is weird. There is a hole there, but not sure what its for. There is another hole directly across (other side of lower unit). I guess I'll take it back to the dealer to find out whats going on. Thanks for the input!
Oil coming out anywhere is not normal.
Crack open the bottom drain screw, if you get water, you have a problem. If no water tighten it back up and remove the top vent screw. If oil comes out the top let it come out til it stops. I have never seen one ever filled but, I guess anything is possible? Of course do all this with the motor trimmed down level.
the little hole leaking oil on your lower unit is called a weep hole, kinda like the weep hole on a automotive water pump, that drips water to let you know your pump seal is bad. a leak is indicating a bad seal around the drive shaft under your water pump. It is not nearly as bad to change as the seal on the drive shaft the prop is on. You might as well put a water pump kit while your at it if its been a while, because you will have to pull the pump impeller and lower plate off to access it. its an easy swap just chisel it out with a screw driver and use a socket to tap the new back in. good luck.
I agree you have a leaking seal or o ring around your pump base area, my guess would be it was low and getting bad and when it was filled it started leaking, yes it is a fairly easy fix,i usally find it easier to replace the whole base you can get the whole kit with the base with the seals in it and just slide it on.
just an FYI if the yammy is like the mercs it has 2 seals and it is a good idea to pack some grease between the two seals before installing.
