Where ever you catch them it has to have good current and strong supple on shad for food, I've only caught once while we were bream fishin in Grand River Flats, We were idling out i happen to look up seen somethign Busting up the Shad, I reach down pix up my rod&reel w/ Chrome&Blue Cordell Spot on it, Made 1st cast as boat was still moving WHAM!!!! we caught umm for 30 min filled up ice chest, Only other place i know that we've caught ummm is False River in New Roads ion Feb/March @Light House Canal in boat tight line w/ Market Shrimp Best bait for ummm in that condition is Small Crawfish Good Luck hope this Helps

Your best bet from bank is around water that has a lot of current, best near spillway discharge/runoff or even water rushing over rocks in any local river. Unfortunately with all the freshwater around LA it's difficult to find that type of water from the bank. I've picked up a few white bass and/or hybrids from my small boat when they are busting bait on surface in almost all the rivers in the south LA area I fish. I did talk to an elder fisherman a few years ago that told me he has caught them from bank near Seabrook on Ponchatrain.
