I've heard a few people say that the corn prices are only going to get worse, a lot worse!! I had a buddy in my hunting camp a few years back try the by the ton thing (super sack) and spent hours sifting and bagging it only to still have chunks of trash jamb up his feeders. Needless to say this is a direct impact of our brain trust in government who decided we have enough food, lets burn some in our vehicles. Guess they didn't anticipate a drought like we have going on currently which is going to affect all our food prices drastically in the very near future. I decided last season not to throw corn and instead invested that money towards planting more and better plots. I saw as many deer as anybody else at our place and didn't have to deal with filling feeders or any of the fun stuff like jambing motors, dead batteries, refilling or other visitors showing up for a free meal (hogs, raccoons or predators). To answer your question now that I've got that off my chest. Academy had a deal a couple of weeks ago for $ 6.99, but I don't know if they're going to do that again, Walmart over here is $7.88 for a 40 lb. bag. I know last year there was a huge acorn crop and judging by the oak tree in my front yard which had it's best production ever, this year is going to be just as good, if not better. I say find some oaks and let mother nature do her thing and stock up on meat, It's about to get real expensive at the grocery!!! Good luck this season.
Thats a shame corn is going up. I hunt in Alabama where it is not legal to feed deer. A lot of the state's revenue comes from tickets given to hunters feeding deer (as told to me by a wlf agent) They won't make it legal because of this.
I don't feed deer anymore after paying a fine of $525.00 (the fine used to carry a 1 year suspension of license, but they found out this was costing them money and quit that) .The fine is doubled if you have an out of state license. The high price of corn will hurt them. Maybe the local hunters next door will not feed as much and take all my deer.
Saw where is reached a record high last week. Bought some sweet feed at the COOP last week and it's gone up. I was afraid to ask the price of corn. That's where I've found the best price in bags. Good luck.
